A. Smith by Jno. P. Smith, Her Pater." It is a Holbrook's Stereotyped Edition, printed and sold by John Holbrook, Brattleborough, Vermont. The date of publication is missing. Bible later in the possession of Mrs. L. C. Ellis, Leslie Avenue, Glasgow, KY. Record (Granville Co. N.C.) Jno. P. Smith first son of James & Aney Smith was born A.D. 1791 February 10th, and was joined in the Holy Estate of Matrimony on the 17th day of December Anna Domini 1816 to Elizabeth Reeks Walton, who was born April 7th A.D. 1880 [sic] of John & Dolly Walton and second daughter. Departed this life Elizabeth Reeks Smith, in the County of Fayette, Tennessee on the 21st October 1833, living thirty-five years, six months and 217 days. Living 18 years ten months and four days with her husband John P. Smith, leaving seven children, one of them eleven days old to morn her loss, but their loss is her Eternal gain. She made choise of her Savior in her 19th year and attached herself to the Presbyterian Church of Spring Grove, Granville County, North Carolina and was a constant member of that church until 1833, when she removed to the State of Tennessee. 1st: Mary Ann Elizabeth Aney Smith first child of Jno. and E. R. Smith was born 5th day of November A. Domini 1817, 12 O'clock A.M. Departed this life June 2nd, A.D. 1819. Living one year six months and Twenty Eight days ... 47 of which was on the bed of affliction. 2nd: Martha Edward Walton, second daughter of E. R. and Jno. and E. R. Smith was born A.D. 1819 September 22nd on Wednesday 15 past one o'clock. Departed on Monday the 6th day of February 1821 after an illness of seven days. Living one year four months and 15 days ... the Lord gave and hath taken her from us to the Mansions of Glory. 3rd: James William Smith, first son of Jno. P. & Eliza R. Smith was born A.D. 1821 November 14th 1/2 past three A.M. Mrs. Butler was present. 1835 August sick 15 days September 1849 confined with sore eyes, lost one and had his spiritual eyes opened and converted from the error of his ways at the Union Meetin 1849. Murdered April 4, 1854. 4th: John Pomprett Henry Smith, Second son of Jno. P. Smith & Elisa, his spouse was born the 30th of March A.D. 1824 Ten minutes past ten o'clock A.M. Mrs. Cutts Changler & Walton present. August 31st 1835. News from North Carolina that the will of J. Puryear gave John two negroes ... May 1836; recvd. the above Negroes, was killed on the 18th of Nov. 1836 by being thrown from a horse in Fayette, Tennessee. 5th: Alexander Maurice, 3rd son of Jno. P. Smith & E. R. his spouse was born June 18th 1826. August 1831: Lost the use of his lower extremeties (Peralisis). Born of the Spirit at Oakland C. G. on the 6th of August 1842. Died in Arkansas on the 19th day of May 1848 in his 22nd year. 6th: Penelope Devereaux Anastasia Lafayette, third daughter of Jno. P. Smith & E.R. his spouse was born Feby. the 19th 1829, was married to F. Ekndgain? April 1849. November 19th 1836 Left my little Penelope with her Grand Mother Dolly Walton and she returned home in 1840, and was born again at Spring Hill September 1849. 7th: Pamelia Love Independence, 4th daughter & 7th child of E. R & Jno. P. Smith was born the 4th of July Anno-que Domini 1831 at 5 o'clock. Departed this life on Saturday Morning 15 minutes past 5 o'clock, 3rd Sept 1836. Living five years one month & 29 days, 9 of which was on the sick bed. She is gone to Heaven. Fayette County, Tenn: 8th: Granville Flourney, 4th Son & 8th child of Jno. P. and wife E. R. was born the 3rd day of April A.D. 1833, 1/2 past 3 o'ck. P.M. at Plumb Orchard. Born again at the Union Meesting in September 1849. Dolledge 1850. 2nd Legion at Macon. Sarah Cleves, Eldest Child of Wm. & Jane Cleves was born in the County of Gates, State of North Carolina on the 20th May A.D. 1807, removed to the County of Fayette Tennessee in January 1837 & was joined in Holy Wedlock to Jno. P. Smith on the 12th of March 1843. Laura Jane, first daughter of Sarah & Jno. P. Smith was born October 1st at 6 O'ck P.M., A.D. 1846. And departed this life June the 8th 1 1/2 O'ck A.M. living 8 months, 8 days and 8 hours. The Lord gave. Agnes Boling Cleves, Second daughter of Sarah & Jno. P. Smith was born January 1th at 4 O'ck. A.M. Anogue Domini 1848 & was baptised at Spring Hill in October Agnes Bowling Cleaves by Parson H. Warren. Sallie Jane Pomprette, third Daughter of Jno. Pomprette & Sarah Smith was born the 29th of October 1850 4 1/2 O'clock A.M. & was baptised at Spring by McFerrin Sept. 1850. Betsey Amy Dooley Sarah Ann Martha, 5th daughter and 9th child of J. P. & E. R. Smith was born October 11th, 1/2 past 11 o'ck. P.M. A.D. 1835 & lost her mother at 9 O'ck on the 21st of same month. November 18th 1836 and went to live with her Aunt Pamelia Farrar in Kentucky and married Mr. H.D. Tuck October 6th 1858. 1st: Rosinda & James W. Smith were married 28th Dec. 1843, first child born Nov'd 6th 1844, a boy on O'ck. P.M. 2nd: Betsy or Koughky Read, Second child of James and Rosinda was born on Washington's birth day A. D. 1847. 3rd: California Conroy Green, second daughter of J. W. & R. C. Smith was born 7th Feby. 1849 11 O'ck A.M. 4th: Henrietta, 3rd daughter, 4th child of James W & R. C. Smith was born October 8th 1850, 3 O'ck. A.M. died 1855. On another sheet in Bible was the following record of slaves: Huldy born 1812. Milly, chlid of Huldy was born 1835. Jno. Henry was born 1829. Harriet Pelina was born 1827 ... sold. Dick John was born 1843. Arminta was born 1846, March Kara was born 1847, August. Huldys children marked thus ... X Barsheba's first child was born October 27th, 1848, a girl named Luisa Cass. (Sept. 1849 Hulda had a son Alex. Haywood). Sally Ann, first child a boy was born April 2nd 1851, 7 1/2 O'ck. P.M. Name Henry. Jane A., Negro was born 5th May 1820, sold 1830. Sally Ann was born 1829. Harriet Pelina born 1827. John Henry born 1829 ... negroes of J.P.H. Smith.
