EDMUNDS was born April 8, 1849, in Glasgow, Ky., and is a son of William H. and Amanda M. (Moss) Edmunds, who had a family of three sons and one daughter. William H. Edmunds was born and reared eight miles southwest of Glasgow. When a young man, he graduated in law, practiced a few years, and then engaged in the mercantile business. In latter years he has been engaged in stock speculation. He was a captain in the commisary department in Hardee's corps; also enlisted in the Mexican War. He is a leading citizen of Barren County, and a son of William Edmunds, who married a Miss Lee. They were both natives of Virginia, and immigrated to Barren County, Ky., about 1800, where William was an extensive farmer and slave holder. He was known as Capt. William Edmunds; he was of English and his wife of Scotch-Irish descent; they were both strong believers in the doctrines of the Methodist Episcopal Church; he died in 1864, aged eighty- eight years. Mrs. Amanda M. Edmunds was born in Glasgow, Ky., a daughter of Josiah and Maria (Spillman) Moss, who kept the Moss Hotel for many years in Glasgow. Josiah Moss was a soldier of the war of 1812. Crittenden M. Edmunds was reared in Glasgow until a lad of six years, then removed with his parents to a farm. He was educated at the public schools of Louisville and Volney Academy. At nineteen years of age he engaged as a salesman in a general store at Glasgow Junction, and in September, 1870, formed a partnership with Dr. J. S. Parrish. In 1871 he commenced as a traveling salesman for Adams, Thorne & Co., of Nashville. He was united in marriage, May 1, 1872, with Sarah F. Dishman, of Barren County, Ky., a daughter of Robert C. and Mary W. (Norman) Dishman, natives of Barren County, Ky., and Virginia, respectively, of English origin. Robert C. Dishman in early life was a farmer, later a merchant, and was a son of William Dishman, of Virginia, who was one of the first settlers of Barren County. To Mr. and Mrs. Edmunds two children were born - one living - Ernest Chauncey. He and wife are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church and Presbyterian Churches, respectively. In the fall of 1872 Mr. Edmunds entered the mercantile business, which he continued until 1879, when he turned his attention exclusively to the drug business, in which he has been successful. He is a member of the K. of P.; politically he is a Democrat, and cast his first presidential vote in 1872. In November, 1885, he was appointed post master at Glasgow Junction, under the present administration.
