(From an NP article date 6/7/1918 Vol LII, No 58. The treatise is the property of Rev. D S Campbell of Russellville, KY.) "Although Mr Hamilton was not an author and made no pretensions of being a writer, he has a clear, loose natural style, that would compare favorably with some who have won recognition as writers. (about the author) There is an Abner Hamilton {descendant} in Metcalfe Co, a very wealthy citizen, who may be related to this Hamilton, for, at this time, Metcalfe Co was a part of Barren Co." (Excerpt from Essay) "At the time there was a revival of religion among the different sects; I then began to attend to the preaching of them all for the purpose of obtaining true religion, if indeed, there was any such thing. i would observe that i am pretty certain i had not then heard a sermon for each year i was old. I soon became tired of attending to the Baptists, because (for the most part) they appear to manifest more zeal for getting people dipped, than for christianizing them. The Methodists preached the doctrine i thought most consistent with reason but their noise i could not stand. "As to the Presbyterians--their discipline seemed to please, but their doctrine of God's Sovereign and electing love I could not bear. i have sometimes thought if good breeding would permit, it would be doing God good service to pull a man out of the pulpit that would preach the doctrine of particular redemption, it seemed so inconsistent with free agency; however, i was like the evil spirit seeking rest and could find none. I thought that a christian must be a perfect being; thus i long looked for what i never found in man."
