Hon. Burwell C. Ritter was born January 6, 1810, in Barren County, Kentucky. 
He received a good English education, and had devoted himself to agricultural 
pursuits. He was a member of the State Legislature, in 1843 and 1850; was 
Presidential Elector in 1864; in 1865, he was elected a Representative from 
Kentucky, in the Thirty-ninth Congress, serving on the Committees on 
Agriculture and Expenditures in the Treasury Department.
