Smiths Grove Gazette: Mad-Stone. Dr. Alex BEARD, of Knob Lick, was bitten some time ago by what he supposed to be a mad-dog, and he came to Mr. G O CRAIG, near town, but it failed to take. It is not known certainly whether the dog that bit Dr Beard has hydrophobia, but the results are closely watched. So great was Dr Beard's faith in the virtues of the mad-stone that he had it applied, fearing that the dog might have been in a poisonous state. The stone will cling to the wound if there is the least bit of poison in the system and will not drop off until it is all drawn out. The stone that Mr. Craig has has been in use for nearly one hundred years, and in no case, where it was it applied to mad-dog bites, has the victim ever died of rabies.
