"Death of Mrs. Mollie Dodd Barlow. Oh life is like the morning rose, That spent in the morning sky, And ere the shades of evening close, Is scattered on the ground to die." "The hearts of this people will be stricken with grief at the announcement of the death of Mrs. Mollie Dodd Barlow, who departed this life at the residence of her brother, Captain Thomas L. Dodd, in Nashville, Tenn., on the night of the 14th inst., where she and her husband, John S. Barlow, Jr., had been sojourning for more than two months prior to her death. "She left Glasgow with the view of obtaining at the home of her brother, the best medical aid; and all that love could dictate was done to alleviate the suffering, and restore to her the boon of health; but medical science and skill availed not, and she has passed away from earth to her home beyond the stars in the sweet fields of Eden. "She was a beautiful, accomplished and talented young lady, and possessed of all those high virtues that adorn and beautify female character. She died, as she lived, a spotless christian woman. From the effects of the disease, under which she suffered, her brain became involved, and for some time before death there was an absence of any delirium, and her mind regained its full vigor and tone, and those who witnessed her death speak of her conversations at different times for several days previous to her disease, as being the most beautiful exemplifications of christian faith, and sincere devotion to the cross of Christ. "She was the youngest daughter of our esteemed and lamented citizen, Mr. Halden [Haiden] Dodd, who illustrated throughout life the truth of the beautiful language of the poet. "An honest man is the noblest work of God." "Tuesday her remains were escorted to this place by her husband, her mother, her brother and Hon. G. B. Guild, of Nashville, and on yesterday the deceased was buried alongside of the graves of her beloved father and child, in the presence of a large concourse of sorrowing friends. "We have never said farewell to a loftier, a truer, or a nobler spirit. "May Heaven soften the terrible blow to the heart stricken husband in this, the terrible hour of bitter calamity."
