"DEATH. Seldom, indeed, have the people of Glasgow ever so numerously assembled themselves together in mourning to see the remains of a departed friend as on last Saturday, when the funeral of Joseph P. Cockrill was preached by the Baptist church by Elder Gardner. The deceased was born and raised in this town; was nineteen years old, lacking only till next May. He was a favorite with all who knew him from his little boy days till his death, which occurred at one o'clock Friday morning, 17th January 1879. No young man of his years had a higher place in the confidence and hearts of his people than this noble boy. His energy and industry, coupled with his good morals and manly bearing, had already designated him in the notice of the business public as a rising business and useful man. He joined the church four years ago and has been a learning Christian ever since till his death. The disease with which he died - typhoid fever - never released its grasp from the time of his confinement till his death. The dear mother and sorrowing brothers and sisters were about his bedside in fully sympathy, and lavising out to the last their affectionate effoprts to save but the Lord gave and the Lord taketh away, and blessed to His name forever.
