Name: Shed Robert Elliott [photo] - Black - Lt Colonel Residence: Las Vegas, NV - formerly of Glasgow Died: Thursday, 15 March 2001, Valley Hospital, Las Vegas, age 74. Born: 18 July 1926 Bakertown, KY Son of: Shed Elliott Jr and Stella Mae Lawson Elliott Member Johnson Chapel C M E Church at an early age. Educated at West Viginia State College, the University of Martyland and the University of Oklahoma. Joined the US Army in 1944 and retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Ordinance Corps after 24 years of service. This included seven years in Europe, Germany and Italy; three years in Japan and one year each in Korea and Vietnam. He became associated with the Nuclear Weapons Program when assigned to the Armed Forces Special Weapons Project at Sandia Base in 1952. Subsequently, served in the technical management and command positions involving nuclear weapons safety, maintenance storage and disposal insice and outside the continental United States. Prior to going to Vietnam in 1967, he was chief of Weapons Safety Division, U S Army Nucelar Weapons Surety Group. On return from Vietnam, he served until retirement as an inspector general at the US Army Material Command in Washington, DC. He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church where he worked with the United Methodist Men. Also also a member of the local NAACP, American Society of Military Engineers, American Ordinance Association, Veterans of Foreigh Wars, 9" & 10" Calvary Association (commonly known as 'Buffalo Soldiers) and West Virginia State Alumni. Received many awards including the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star medal and the Army Commendation medal. He was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel. Survivors: Wife: Patricia Elliott of Las Vegas Grand-children: Joseph and Kimberly of Alaska and Jessica Elliott of Las Vegas Brothers: Bobby Elliott and wife Colbert Jean and Alexander Elliott of Haywood, KY Several nieces and nephews, and other relatives. Preceded also in death by: Sons: Robert and Wyndham Elliott Brothers: Kyle and Joe Elliott Services: 11 am Thursday, 22 March 2001, Zion United Methodist Church, Las Vegan, interment Arlington National Cemetery on Tuesday, 3 April at 3:30.
