Harlin, age 67, head of the Harlin Insurance Agency and partner in the Harlin-Clayton Co., a leading Glasgow Department Store for over twenty years, died at his home on North Race Street Saturday morning of a heart ailment. He had been in ill health several years. "A native of Monroe Couny, Mr. Harlin was born August 2, 1873, at Gamaliel, Ky., and was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George W. Harlin, prominent Monroe county citizens. Most of his life was devoted to the general mercantile business. He entered upon business career at Fountain Run when 17 years of age and was connected with the firm of Harlin-Coomer Co., there for several years except for a short time spent in Hodgenville. "In 1911 he moved to Glasgow and formed a partnership in the mercantile business with the late Mayor James E. Clayton in the firm known as Harlin-Clayton Co., which was located in the building now occupied by the National Stores, Incorporated. This store was sold to the Crawford-Gatlin Co. in 1928 and it was then that Mr. Harlin retired from the mercantile business. Shortly afterwards, Mr. Harlin entered the insurance business and maintained offices on South Green Street here at the time of his death. "He had been prominent in the civic, banking and religious circles of this section for many years and his kindness to all and unselfish attitude had won for him hosts of devoted friends thruout Barren and surrounding counties. He was a member and deacon of the Church of Christ here. "In politics he was a lifelong Republican, having taken a prominent part in many political campaigns in the interest of those whom he considered qualified applicants for public office. In spite of his deep interest for his party, he was not one to let this interfere with personal friendship. "In the death of Mr. Harlin Glasgow has lost an outstanding citizen, one whose span of years has been devoted to uplifting enterprises of the community and service to fellowmen. "Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Sadie Harlin, a son, Mr. Sewell C. Harlin, manager of the Central Oil Co., this city; a sister, Mrs. Mattie Comer, Nashville; his stepmother, Mrs. Frances Harlin of Fountain Run, and two grandchildren, Sewell Harlin, Jr., and Jean Harlin, Glasgow. "Funeral services were held Sunday, 4 pm, at the Harlin residence, on North Race Street. The Rev. Allen Phy conducted the service assisted by Rev. B A. Sykes. Burial was in the Glasgow cemetery. "Pallbearers were Messrs L. L. Pa___, W H Jones, Jr, John Mo___on, Robert Goodman, J. ___ and R. L. Lessenberry." Additional Comments: NOTE: I have no connection and no further information.
