"Mr. John Matthews died at his [sic] home of his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Steffey, near Beaver Creek, Thursday morning at the age of 67 years, from apoplexy, very unexpectedly. "He was a single man, never having been married. "He was born and spent his life in the South Fork section, where he was held in the highest regard. "His surviving brothers and sisters are Tucker Matthews of Bowling Green, Mr. Jep Matthews of Fla., and Mr. Allen Matthews of Colorado, Mrs. Frank Smith of near Temple Hill, and Mrs. Steffey, at whose home he died. "Mr. Matthews was a member of the Baptist church at South Fork where the funeral and interment will take place at 11 o'clock Friday."
