"The Death of Mr. Marcellus Matthews. ("Old Reb"). Marcellus Matthews, of Tracy, died a few days ago, leaving his second wife and two sons and two daughters, also three sons and two daughters by his first wife. "Mr. Matthews was 76 years of age, and joined Company D, 6th Kentucky C.S.A. when only a boy. He was a brave soldier unto the end. He was a good husband and a loving father and a christian gentleman whom his neighbors loved. His death leaves only nineteen old confederates living in Barren, and 'twill only be a few years more and his old comrades will gather with him. "On Fame's eternal camping ground Where their silents tents are spread And Glory guarads with solemn tread The Bivouac of the dead."
