Glasgow (KY) Weekly Times, 18 June 1874.
"We were pained to hear of the death of Miss Sallie Melven, which sad event 
occurred at the residence of her mother, in this place, yesterday morning. A 
victim of that fell destroyer - consumption - she was cut down in the morning 
of her life. She had been in delicate health for sometime, and her death was 
not entirely unexpected. Eminently gifted in all those qualities that make 
Woman lovely, she leaves a large circle of devoted friends to mourn her early 
death. Her afflicted relatives have the heart-felt sympathy of the entire 
community."
