"Barren County Boys Lose Lives. Bruce Ward, age 28, And Archie Peden, 24, Dead; 
Billy Ward Seriously Hurt.

"Bruce Ward and Archie Peden, the boys killed, were to have been married to 
Barren county girls Christmas Week. And gifts for their brides, and for friends 
and relatives were found strewn along the railway tracks after the accident.

"Bruce Ward, age 28; Archie Peden, age 24, were instantly killed, and Billy 
Ward brother of Bruce Ward, was badly injured in a railway crossing accident in 
Detroit, Mich., Saturday morning. Car in which the victims were riding, a new 
Dodge was smashed to pieces.

"All of the victims were Barren county boys who had been working in auto 
factories in Detroit. They were returning home for the holidays, and had just 
left the home of Robert Peden, brother of Archie Peden, one of the dead. Just 
how the accident occurred is not known.

"A fast Wabash passenger train struck the car full force, and the Peden and 
Ward boys were killed instantly, and Billy Ward severely injured. There were no 
eye witnesses to the tragedy.

"The bodies were returned to their old homes here Monday for burial.

"Bruce Ward was in his 28th year, and a son of Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Ward, of Mt. 
Vernon school district. Four sisters and three brothers survive, as follows: 
Misses Ruby Ward, who teaches at Bluff Springs; Lucy Mae Ward, Christy Ward and 
Gladys Ward, all who live at home; Otto Ward and Chester Ward, also at home, 
and Billie Ward, who is in a Detroit hospital suffering from injuries sustained 
in the wreck.

"Funeral was conducted at home yesterday afternoon; burial was in the Boles 
burial ground. 

"Archie Peden, the other wreck victim, was in his 24th year and son of Mrs. Jim 
Mack Peden, of the east part of the county. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. 
Peden, and the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. Morris Simmons of Glasgow; 
Mrs. John Chapman and Mrs. Wesley Wells, both of Chestnut Grove section; Mrs. 
Hawley Bertram, of Temple Hill and Mr. Harry Peden, of Ohio; Mrs. Roy Brown of 
Indianapolis; Mr. Bob Peden, of Detoit; Mr. Ben Peden of Montana, and Mr. Roy 
Peden of Oleoak.

"Funeral was yesterday at the home of Mr. Morris Simmons here and interment was 
in Glasgow cemetery."

Bruce Ward buried in the Bowles Cemetery.
