"Youth Fatally Injured. Services were held Monday for a Barren County youth, Victor Shirley, who died Thursday night at a Louisville hospital after being injured in a tractor-fire accident Thursday on a farm near Cave City. According to reports, Shirley, 15, was working in a tobacco field on the R. T. Smith farm, Route 2, Cave City, when the tractor he was driving overturned and caught fire. Shirley was reportedly pinned under the vehicle. He was rushed to Samson Community Hospital for treatment of severe burns and later transferred to Louisville. According to Jefferson County Coroner Buddy Egnar, Shirley suffered third degree burns over 60 percent of his body. Funeral services for Shirley were held at 1 p.m. Monday at Randolph Baptist Church under the direction of Watts Funeral Home with burial in the church cemetery. Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Gladys Smith and his stepfather, Eugenie Smith of Glasgow."
