Harry Gorin SMITH - 28 Mar 1885 - 7 Feb 1940

"Mr. Harry Gorin Smith, 54, prominent Louisville banker and native of Glasgow, 
died at his home in Louisville Wednesday night, February 7, around midnight 
where he had been critically ill for the past few days. Death was attributed to 
uremic poisioning and heart trouble."

"Funeral services were conducted at the Pearson Funeral Home in Louisville 
Friday, at 10 a.m. The remains were brought to the Glasgow cemetery where 
burial took place at 3 p.m. Both Glasgow banks closed for the funeral."

"Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lyda G. Smith, a daughter, Miss Gwynne 
Smith, Louisville; two sisters, Mrs. Ernest Warder and Mrs. V. R. Jones, 
Glasgow; three brothers, Messrs Howard B. Smith, Springfield, Tenn., Attorney 
E. H Smith and Malcolm Smith, both of Glasgow."

"A son of the late W. B. and Annie Huggins Smith, he was born March 28, 1885 
and received his elementary education in the city schools here. He later 
attended the University of Kentucky, Kentucky Military Institute and a private 
school at New Haven, Conn."

"Mr. Smith began his business career as assistant cashier of the old First 
National Bank in this city, of which his father, the late Mr. W. B. Smith, was 
president. He later moved to Louisville and was elected secretary of the State 
Bankers Association, serving this body for twenty years. After resigning this 
position, he became connected with the State Federal Housing Administration and 
at the time of his death was vice president of the Liberty Bank and Trust Co., 
of Louisville."

"Mr. Smith has been very active in social and civic circles since becoming a 
resident of Louisville, and was president of the Audubon Club there. Possessed 
of a pleasing personality, he was studious, kind and clever and was one of the 
most popular and best liked men that ever left Glasgow."

Note: He was named for a close friend of his father, Harry Gorin, local 
attorney in Glasgow.
