Mr. Bird K[incheloe] Wells, one of Barren County's most prominent and wealthiest men and oldest citizen, died at his home near Temple Hill, Thursday, in his seventy-ninth year. His age, combined with a complication of disease caused his death. "During the gold fever of 1859, Mr. Wells was one of a party that went West to seek riches in California's gold fields. He was more than successful in his adventure and returned to his native state and county with his fortunes that he had amassed. Some of his money he invested in real estate and rich farming lands; at the time of his death, he owned two valuable business houses in the heart of Glasgow's business section and was the owner of a number of fine farms. "For the past several years, his health and debibated [sic] condition had not permitted him ____ (unreadable}."
