Name: Mary Cornelius Wilson Residence: Glasgow KY Died: Friday, 8 Apr 2005, residence, age 99 Born: Jackson Co 18 Apr 1905 Third of eight children. Attended Annville Institute and took secretarial training at Eastern State Teachers College. In 1928 married a young lawyer, Cecil C. Wilson, from Livingston County, and in 1932 they established their home in Glasgow where she continued to live until her death. Always a staunch Baptist, Mrs. Wilson taught women's Sunday School for more than 60 years, finally retiring on her 90th birthday. She was the oldest living member of Glasgow Baptist Church. Her second major civic interest was the Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Public Library in Glasgow where she served on the board for many years and was a chairperson for more than 20 years. President of the KY Library Trustees Association, served on the White House Commission of Libraries. A 70-year member of the Glasgow Garden Club where she became interestd in ecology and conservation. Served on the first board of directors of the Kentucky Nature Conservancy and traveled all over the state examining and assessin! g potential gifts of primite land to the converancy. Remained physically active until very recently, led the exercise class at the senior citizens center until page age 90. The Wilsons traveled extensively to ancient parts of the world. She returned to China and visited Tibet after her husband's death in 1974. Her experiences in distant lands provided beneficial to her as she continued to keep informed of world events, including current crises in countries and cultures she had visited. Survivors: Two daughters: Cecile Wilson Garmon and husband Larry D of Glasgow and Sue Nancy Wilson Herbert of Black Canyon City, AZ Four grandchildren: Leslie Garmon Sarasin of Vienna VA, Nancy Anne Herbert Wallace of Glasgow and Hiram Jefferson (Jay) Herbert III of Louisville KY Two great-grandchildren: Sarah Nicole Berry of Lamb KY and Douglas Wilson Sarasin of Vienna VA Nephew: Steven Roberts Nunn of Glasgow Niece: Jenny Lou Nunn Penn of Frankfort Preceded also in death by: Husband: Cecil Crewdson Wilson Sister: Beula Cornelius Nunn Six older brothers and sisters Services: Sunday, 10 Apr 2005, 2 pm, A F Crow and Son Funeral Home, burial Glasgow Municipal Cemetery.
