Thos. J. Atchison John Allen Bath county June Court 1850 This inventory of the estate of G. W. Johnson was returned approved and ordered to be recorded where upon the same hath been duly admitted to record in my office as the Law irects Given under my hand as clerk of the county court for the county aforesaid this 10th day of June 1850 W.M. Sudduth Clk Examined by R. H. Stanhope D.C. Additional Comments: I recently made a mad-dash trip to Bath county to try & discover any info abt my gr-gr-grandfather George Washington Johnson, who I believe was born abt 1844. I ran across a lengthy document which I copied & then tried to figure out when I got home. It is titled an "inventory and appraisement of all of the property of George W. Johnson dec'd which was produced to us by James Johnson his administrator." Then there begins a series of accounts that read something like this: 1 .. note on .. W.W. Atchison --- balance--- 13.58 I have no idea if this is what is owed to Geoge W. Johnson or what he owes someone else. This list is roughly alphabetical (very rough). Then there is a section of "A List of Property" and then back to accounts, where again I'm not sure who owes whom. I am transcribing the whole of the list & trying very hard to use the clerk's original spelling. Some names/ spellings are unreadable or conjectured, & in those cases they are underlined. I have included the dollar amounts only on the list of property at this time, to save my eyesight! I have page numbers from the book, but cannot locate the volume number at this time (I'll report it later when I find my citation). Even on the property list, I tried to keep the original spellings, even though I actually know how to spell barrel and hoe and tobacco. If nothing else, this list is a testament to how variable spelling was at this time in history. Some of the names do not appear on the Bath County 1850 census but show up in adjacent counties such as Fleming and Montgomery. In one case, the only match I could find was for a person in Tennessee. The list of names is far too lengthy to mention. File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ky/bath/court/gwl43johnson.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/kyfiles/
