p. 486	This Indenture made this eighth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixteen 
Witnesseth that agreeably to an Act of the General Assembly in such case made and provided Colvit Maxey of the age of 
sixteen years the first day of November 1815 is bound an apprentice to Joseph Kelso until he arrives at the age of 
twenty years to learn the trade or occupation of house joiner during which term the said apprentice his said master 
shall faithfully serve, his secrets keep and obey his lawful commands, and do no damage to his said master nor suffer 
it to be done by others, he shall not lend his said master’s goods unlawfully, he shall not haunt ale houses or taverns, 
he shall not commit fornication nor contract matrimony during such term but in all things behave himself as a faithful 
apprentice ought to do and his said master shall do the utmost of his endeavors to teach or cause to be taught his said 
apprentice the aforesaid trace of house joiner and the said master is to find the said apprentice in good meat drink 
washing and lodging and apparel both linen and woolen fit for such apprentice to wear and teach or cause to be taught 
said apprentice reading writing and common arithmetic including the rule of three and to give said apprentice three 
pounds ten shillings in cash and a decent new suit of clothes at the end of said term of service In witness whereof 
the said Joseph Kelso hath hereunto set his hand and seal the day and date first above written.  Joseph Kelso.

This indenture of apprenticeship binding Colvit Maxey infant orphan of Thomas Maxey Decd to Joseph 
Kelso was acknowledged in open court by said Joseph Kelso and ordered to be recorded Whereupon the same is truly 
recorded in my office as the Law directs Given under my hand as Deputy for Thomas Fletcher Clerk of the Court aforesaid.
