BATH COUNTY, KY LAND RECORDS: Stancliff/Standcliff Family Bath County, Kentucky Court House Owingsville, Kentucky BATH COUNTY LAND AND PROPERTY, DEED BOOK A, pages 99-100 This Indenture made the 10th day of September, 1814 between JOHN ARTHUR of Fleming County, Kentucky and JOSEPH STANDCLIFF of Bath County, Kentucky. John Arthur for the sum of five pounds paid to him by Joseph Standcliff conveyed a parcel of land in Bath County on the south side of the waters of the Licking River, being part of a ten thousand acre tract of land surveyed on January 16, 1786 in the name of Thomas Harris and contained in a patent in the name of Thomas Harris bearing the date of January 3, 1796. The description of the land described various trees as boundary designations, but failed to state the total acreage contained in the parcel. Thomas Iles, John Killion and Robert Padget were witness to the transaction The Registrar wrote the following- "I William Suddith Deputy for Thomas Fletcher Clerk of the Court of the County aforesaid Declareth that the within Deed of Conveyance from John Arthur to Josiah Stancliff was this day produced to me and proven by the oaths of John Killion and Robert Padget, witnesses...." Recorded October 10, 1814. A Marginal note on this deed indicates "Delivered Owner June 1, 1823 T.G.S." BATH COUNTY LAND AND PROPERTY, DEED BOOK I, page 6 This indenture made and entered into this 11th day of April 1832. SPENCER BOYD in consideration of the sum of fifty dollars paid by JOSEPH C. STANCLIFF conveyed "a tract of land situated in Bath County on the Licking River & being part of a tract of 72943/4 acres surveyed for Turpins & patented to Thomas Fletcher & bounded as follows to wit. Beginning at the Mouth of the still house branch turning into Licking above where said Stancliff now lives then down Licking River to a black walnut & two elm trees on the South side of Licking being anciently Marked as one of the Corners to a tract conveyed by John Arthur to said Stancliff...." Signed by Boyd in the presence of the Registrar and entered into the record. BATH COUNTY LAND AND PROPERTY, DEED BOOK C page 428-429 An indenture dated April 14, 1820 in which JOHN ARTHUR of Fleming County for the sum of One dollar sold to JOHN PURVIS a 70 acre tract of land described in part as "Beginning at Joseph Stanliffs upper Corner on Licking South East Course with said Stanclifs line to Thomas Harris patent line then North with said line to the River thence down the River to the Beginning...." Signed by John Arthur in the presence of Wm Moore and Thomas Purvis. Sworn to and entered into record December 11, 1820. page 431-432 An indenture dated April 14, 1820 JOHN ARTHUR of Fleming County for the sum of One dollar sold to WILLIAM MOORE of Bath County a 70 acre tract of land described in part as being in the County of Bath on the Water of Licking, being part of the Thomas Harris tract and bounded "Beginning at Joseph Stancliff South East Corner on Harris's old line South with said line to the State road thence East with said road to William Moores corner then with William Moores line a north course to David Moores line ....". Signed in the presence of David Moore, James Jones and Levi Jones and entered into record Dec. 11, 1820. page 433-434 An indenture dated April 14, 1820 JOHN ARTHUR of Fleming County for the sum of One dollar sold to WILLIAM MOORE of Bath County a 420 acre tract of land described in part as being in the County of Bath on the Water of Indian Creek, being part of the Thomas Harris tract and bounded "from a large walnut and two hickories Standing in the bottom of Indian Creek.... on the original line of said Harris's Line in the fork of the wagon road ....". Signed in the presence of David Moore, James Jones and Levi Jones and entered into record Dec. 11, 1820. BATH COUNTY LAND AND PROPERTY, DEED BOOK L, page 345 Memorandum of Contract bargain Sale and Conveyance made and executed Mar. 1, 1841 in which JAMES STANDCLIFF of Bath County, Kentucky for the sum of $225 received of MICHAEL SMITH of Bath County, Kentucky conveyed the following property: One Bay filly One sorrel coult one cow and calf Fifteen head of Sheep Fifty head of Geese Four Hogs Two cribs of corn One Bureau one Table one clock Two Beds and Bedding Two Bedsteads six chairs Two Ten gallon Kettles and one side saddle. Benjamin Sudduth certified the deed of conveyance and entered it into record Mar. 1, 1841. Marginal note indicates the property was delivered on March 6, 1841. BATH COUNTY LAND AND PROPERTY, DEED BOOK P, page 263 This indenture made and entered Sept. 21, 1848 in which WILLIAM MOORE and DOLLY his wife, JAMES STANCLIFF and SUSAN his wife, ISAAC GARNER and MARGARET his wife, of Bath County, Kentucky for the sum of $300.00 sold to PHILIP WILLIAMS a parcel of land which was "one equal seventh part each of the farm belonging to heirs Michael Smith deceased in the County and State aforesaid which they accrued of the estate....". The property described as Beginning at Kingsend Caldwells SE Corner and bounded by various marked trees. Signed by all of the grantees with only James and Sussanah making a mark. The Clerk of Court declared that all of the grantees had appeared before him to acknowledge the deed which was entered into record Sept. 21, 1848. BATH COUNTY LAND AND PROPERTY, DEED BOOK U pages 98-99 This Indenture made and entered into this 22nd day of November 1853 between CHARLES WHITTINGTON and SUSAN his wife MARGARET STANDCLIFT and LEWIS STANDCLIFT by F. Rand Commissioner of the 1st part and GEORGE W. McDONALD of the 2nd part all of the County of Bath and State of Kentucky witnesseth that the said part of the 1st part for and in Consideration of a Decree of the Bath Circuit Court in the case of George W. McDonald against Susan Standclift &c and the further Consideration of $150.00 in hand paid the said party of the 1st part hath this day bargined and sold and by these presents doth alien release and Convey unto the said party of the 2nd part a tract of Land on the waters of the Licking River in Bath County being the tract formerly owned by James Standclift and Known as his home farm and which he sold to the party of the 2nd part as shown in exhibit A in said Suit with all appurtenences thereunto belonging To have and to hold unto the said party of the second part forever and the party of the 1st part will warrant and defend the title hereby Conveyed as far as by said Decree they are bound to do but no further. Examined by the Court approved and ordered to be certified to the clerk of the Bath County Court for record which is hereby accordingly done Given under my hand this 22 October 1856 J. A.
