The fire engine has been used to sprinkle the streets because of heavy dust. April 5, 1906 Mrs. Nancy Shrout, aged 74 years, died at her home on Prickley Ash on Thursday, March 27. Interment in cemetery here. W.T. Wilson, who bought the farm of Joseph Lindsey at Sherbourne, while cleaning some land, cut a blackberry briar 21 feet and eight inches long and one inch in diameter. He is going to exhibit it at the Ewing Fair. April 4, 1907 Judge John A. Ramsey has a dogwood tree in bloom in his yard. THe dogwood usually blooms in May. Judge brought a bunch to the office. While playing with some children, Alex Conyer's little daughter, Elanor, was run over by another little girl and had her arm broken at the wrist. April 2, 1908 Mayor J.M. Brother and his wife, who have been spending the winter in Eustis, Florida, have returned home. John T. and Sam Lathram bough the shares of their brothers George, Joe, and Wm. T., in the farm of their late father, George Lathram on Naylor's Branch, paying $400.00 each. April 1, 1909 John Whaley and Miss Fannie J. Barber, of Naylor's Branch were married March 24 by Elder Geo Mills. The curse of Sharpsburg is leghorn chickens. If people will keep chickens in town, why don't they keep larger breeds that cannot fly over the moon? April 7, 1910 Joseph Myers and wife have bought the Templemen place from Bruce Snedegar and will return Batavia, Ohio to make their home here. Sam Crooks left Friday to take a place as guard at the penitentiary at Frankfort. April 6, 1911 Ed Byron bought ten acres of land of T. S. Shrout, situated south of S. D. Thompson's home for $6.50. Ed Byron is having the tract of land south of the cemetary cleared to plant corn. It destroys the last remaining woodland within the city limits. April 3, 1913 Granville Stone has five ducks that laid ten eggs one day last week. Carl Manley has a hen that makes a business of laying 2 eggs a day. Coburn Hamilton and Miss Amp Spurlock of Hillsboro were married at the Central Hotel in Maysville, March 26. They returned to his home Thursday. Thursday, March 27, 1980 Shots fired Thursday during and altercation between Roy Satterfield and Clay Holder at Miller's Ashland Oil in Owingsville resulted in damages to property and in the hospitalization of one of the participants. The argument between Satterfield and Holder took place at approximatels 10:30 pm and culminated in shots being fired by both men. A window of the Richardson Law Office was shattered by one shot and another bullet shattered the windshield of Holder's truck (which was penetrated by a total of four shots) results in flying glass and facial cuts to the occupant (Holder). Satterfield was shot in the upper right thigh and was later transported to the Mary Chiles hospital in Mt. Sterling for treatment. Both men were charged with wanton endangerment in the first degree and released on $2000 bond pending arraignment Wednesday, April 2. The case remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police detectives, Randy Frizzell and Wilson Harmon. Kentuckians will begin the changeover to four year drivers' licenses in 1981 under a bill signed into law last week. According to F.E. Hodges of the Transportation Department's licensing division, the fee for regular operator's four year licenses will be doubled to $8 from $4 now charged for a two-year license. Sharpsburg has recieved a new fire truck that arrived last week. The 4-wheel drive quick-response vehicle holds 300 gallons of water and cost $22,280. It was purchased by the outgoing city council last year. Joe Denton, a partner in the ownership of the Keal Funeral Home in Owingsville and the Powell-Denton Funeral Home in Salt lick, has announced that his association with the Keal establishment was terminated as of January 1. The Denton Brothers, who reside in Fleming County, became associated with the Keal Funeral Home on October 1, 1978. Joe Denton decided to end this association following the death of his brother Jim Denton, another partner, last fall. The funeral home will continue to operate under the management of Fred Keal and Raymond Bromagen. Mr. Denton has stated that he will continue his interest in the Powell-Denton establishment in Salt Lick. Mr. and Mrs. George Phelps Ratliff, of Sharpsburg, announce the engagement of their daughter, Elizabeth Barrett to Rich Dean Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Dean Smith, Mt. Sterling. Miss Ratliff is a graduate of Mt. Sterling High School and Transylvania University. She is a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority and is employed by the Montgomery County Board of Education. Mr. Smith is a graduate of Mt. Sterling High School and the University of Kentucky. He is employed by the Eureka Company in Louisville. The wedding will take place June 14 at 5:00 pm at the home of the bride's parents in Sharpsburg. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Nealis of Mt. Sterling wish to announce the engagement of their daughter, Opal Darlene to Garry Lee Jackson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry C. Jackson, of Owingsville. Miss Nealis is a graduate of Montgomery County High School and is employed by Trojan Inc. Mr. Jackson is a graduate of Bath County High School and is also employed by Trojan Inc. The wedding will take place at 7 pm on April 4 at the Preston First Church of God. All friends and relatives are invited to attend. Thursday March 30 1995 Bath County High School Beta Club held a blood drive on March 14 and collected a total of 62 units of blood. The blood drive was sponsored by the high school and Central Kentucky Blood Center. Ray Ellis and Steve Swim, cochairmen of this year's May Day Festival and Beauty Pageant, announce there will be 17 candidates competing for the title of Miss Bath County 1995. THe pageant will be held on Saturday, May 13. Initially 19 had announced their intentions to be candidates, but two later dropped out of the running.
