Moore was assisting other workmen in raising the 70 foot long steel trusses for the roof of the gymnasium when a slacking guy rope permitted the hoisting apparatus to give way and let the immense steel truss fall, which in doing so knocked over one of the upright columns to which is was to have been bolted. All the other workmen on the job ran to safety except Moore, who was sitting on the concrete foundation wall. The steel column fell across both legs, crushing them almost to a pulp. After first aid treatment here, he was taken to the Mary Chiles hospital at Mt. Sterling, where he died early that night. The remains were taken to his home in Ashland for burial.
