Bath County KY: WILL: Lamach Davis 1835 Will of Lamach Davis: Know all men by this, I Lamach Davis of the County of Bath and State of Kentucky being oald and in ifirm health but of sound mind and disposing memory do make this my last will and testament: First: It my will that all my slaves shall be free at the age of forty years and to prevent any mistakes or disputes about the time of their freedom I now give the exact day that I will them to be free; that is to say my negro woman Phebe is to remain a slave in the family untill the death of myself and wife and then to be free. My boy Jacob to be free on the Twenty fifith day of December 1858. Rostly the Daughter of the above named Phebe to be free on the first day of April 1864. Jack a son of the aforesaid Phebe is to be free on the forst Day Jime 1866. Joseph a son of the said Phebe to be free in the first day of March 1869. Sharlotte a Daughter of the said Phebe to be free in the first day of April 1871. Sisan a Daightter of the sd Phebe is to be free on the thirteenth Day of February 1872. Laucinda a Daighter of the sd Phebe is to be free on the 22d of November 1874. It is to be fairly understood that the future increase of the above named females is to be free at the age of ffforty years, it is further my will that my heir shall not sell or dispose of any of the above named slaves and if they shoild do so it is my will that any so sold shall be entitiled to their freedom immediately -- And as I have heretofore conbeyed the above named boy Joseph to my Daughter Rebecky by a deed of bill of sale and she this dau has agreed that he shall be free according to this my will in consequence of which I give to her the sd Rebecky the aforsd Rosetta and the others of my slaves is to be divided between my sd daughter Rebecky and my three grandchildren being the children of my deceased daughter Nelly Williams, vis:=, William Nathan & Virginia Willians. That is to say rebecky is to have Joseph and Rsetta and an interst in the others so as to give her the sd Rebecky one half of all the afoesd slaves and the other half to be divided equally between my theee afoesd grand children. ot also is my will that my Daughter rebecky is to have my bureau and my daighter Sally Williams to have my desk and all the ballance of my estate is to be divided between my two above named daughters and my three grandchildren that is to say ine third to each of my aforesd daughters and the other three children equally. Now it is fairly to be inderstood there is no division of my estate umtill the death of my wife but to be kept together untill the death of my wife for the mutual benefit of my presant family and lastlyI do appoint my friend John Bott and my daughter Rebecky to execute this my last will this 22nd of Janay 1835. Crooks John Botts Bath County May Court 1836 This instrument of writing purporting to be the last will and testament of Lamach Davis was produced and proven in open court by the Oath of Robert B. Crooks a witness thereto subscribed who also proved that John Botts the other subscribing witness subscribed his name as a witness at the request and in the presence of the Testator & ordered to be recorded & established whereupon the same is duly admitted to record in my office as the Law directs.
