Fuson pg 171 Simon Delph served two terms as County Superintendent of Schools of Bell County, 1910-1914, and 1914-1918. He was born and reared at Straight Creek mines, at the Forks of Straight Creek. In his younger days, while going to school, he worked in the mines. His father was a coal miner. Simon was ambitious and worked hard to get an education. This he did and has figured prominently in the political and teaching pg 172 history of the county. He began teaching in 1895 and has been in educational work since that time, a period of forty-four years. He is at present teaching in the Ferndale school. He lives with his wife at Ferndale.
