He was born in Bell County, on May 5, 1933, the son of the late Richard and Debbie Lawson Baker. He was a member of the Laurel Hill Pentecostal Church. He was especially proud of his years of service in the United States Air Force. He served for 13 years in the capacity of Load Master and left the Air Force with the rank staff sergeant. His missions took him around the world many times, and provided him with many adventurous stories to share with his family and friends. He was a decorated veteran of the Korean War. Upon leaving the service, he was employed by the Chrysler Corporation in Indianapolis for 10 years before returning home to Pineville in 1972. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Kitty Baker and sister, Thelma Baker Hughes. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Betty Ann Sanders Baker, daughter Susan and husband Tom Caulk of Williamsburg, Va., daughter Barbara and husband Jim Collett of Kingsport, Tenn.; and son Kenneth Baker of Pineville; granddaughter, Christy and husband Parry Ward of Largo, Fla.; grandson Travis and wife Jennifer Baker, Pineville. He was also blessed with three beautiful great-granddaughters, Kaily and Cameron Ward and Hannah Baker; brothers, Leon Baker, Virgil Baker, Claude Baker, Hubert Baker, Lloyd Brock; sister, Virgie Baker Dell and a host of other relatives and friends; and RN Betty Page whose care and cheerful disposition, meant so much to him and his family. Services will be Friday, Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. at Laurel Hill Pentecostal Church with Rev. Hubert Baker and Rev. Gary Cornelius officiating. Music will be provided by Angie Robbins. Burial will follow in Pinelawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Steve Baker, Dennis Dell, Jeffery Baker, Travis Baker, Nathan Ledford, Anthony Baker and Gerald Baker. The family will receive friends from 6 until 9 p.m. Thursday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home, Pineville which is in charge of arrangements. Guestbook at www.arnettsteele.com.
