ROBERT HOWARD BRANDENBURG
 
    Robert Howard Brandenburg, 89, was born in Wasiota, Kentucky on November 
10, 1914.  He passed away November 23, 2003 at Holy Cross Hospital in Taos 
surrounded by loving family members.  Howard first started coming to Taos in 
the 1920's with his father and fell in love with Taos.  He moved to Taos in 
1940 and began law practice.  Shortly after moving to Taos, he met Helen Emily 
Zimmerman who would become his wife in October 1940.
    Howard practiced law in Taos for 50 years and was active in 52 service 
organizations including the Taos Fire Department and the Lion's Club.  He was 
also a most loving and devoted husband and father.  He will be sorely missed 
by all who knew him, and remember especially for his integrity, his sense of 
humor, and his commitment to his family and his community.
    Howard is survived by his wife of 63 years, Helen Emily Z. Brandenburg; a 
sister in Florida, Frances B. Hume; his children, James Michael Brandenburg 
and wife Claire of Taos; Sharon B. Adkinson and husband H. William of Santa 
Fe; and Elizabeth B. Johnson and husband Clifford of Taos.  He is also 
survived by grandchildren, Catherine and Howard Brandenburg both of 
Albuquerque; Elizabeth Adkinson of Phoenix; Brittany Adkinson of Durango; 
Brian Adkinson of Albuquerque; Meredith Johnson, great grandson, Tyler Jacob 
Maechtlen and Greg Johnson and wife Clare all of Albequerque.
    Private family services have been held.  In lieu of flowers, the family 
requests the contributions be made to the Taos Volunteer Fire Department, 4591 
NDCBU, Taos, NM  87571; the Taos Animal Shelter, 1200 St. Francis Lane, Taos, 
NM  87571; or First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 215 Paseo Del Pueblo 
Norte, Taos, NM  87571.  Arranges by Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home, Taos, NM 505-
758-3841.
