She was born August 5, 1908, in Fonde, KY, daughter of William Arthur and Allie Lavina (Johnson) Phillips. In July of 1927, she married Melvin C. Cooper in Clairfield, TN, and he preceded her in death on June 2, 1971. Mrs. Cooper worked as a nurse at Beyer Hospital primarily in the OB-GYN Dept, for 22 years. She was a member and former Vice President of American Business Womens' Association, and a member of Ypsilanti Twp Lively Travelers. While living in Marion, TN, she was a member of First Baptist Church where she was the Church pianist. She will always be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her survivors include three children Juanita Cooper, Gary Cooper and Cathy (Rick) Champagne all of Ypsilanti; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three loving brothers and six loving sisters. Funeral service will be held Friday, January 9, 2004 at 1 p.m. at JANOWIAK FUNERAL HOME, Geer-Logan Chapel with Evangelist Phil Byrd officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m.
