Johnson, 89 5/20 MIDDLESBORO - Frances L. Johnson, 89, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2002, at Tri-State Comprehensive Care Center. She was born July 15, 1912, in Birmingham, Ala., a daughter of the late Will Sharp and Nancy Pleasant Sharp. A resident of this area for most of her life, she believed in the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William L. Johnson Sr.; one son, Robert Johnson; one daughter, Alice Frietsch; one brother, Jack Sharp. Survivors include her children, W.L. Johnson Jr., Middlesboro, Martha Rowland, Newport, Tenn., John Johnson, Pontiac, Mich., Bessie Hash, Middlesboro, Mary Vaudhan, Akron, Ohio, Betty Lou Johnson, London, Ky., Anita Asher, Baxter, Tenn., Joyce Klaja, Old Hickory, Tenn., Bea Brown, Mt. Pleasant, N.C., Nancy Smith, Harrogate, Tenn., Jane Frazier, Minot, N.D.; 40 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Ed Sharp, Mobile, Ala. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Shumate Funeral Home with the Rev. Austin Campbell presiding. Music will be provided by Alva Cunningham. Burial will be in Middlesboro Cemetery. Visitation is from 7-9 p.m. today at Shumate Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
