Mary Alice Upton, 84 2/15

    MIDDLESBORO - Mary Alice Upton, 84, passed away Thursday, Feb. 
14, 2002, at Middlesboro Appalachian Regional Hospital. Born Nov. 7,
1917, in Bell County, she was the daughter of the late Steve 
Williams and Belle McNew Williams. In addition to her parents, she 
was preceded in death by her husband, George Wesley Upton; and four 
children, Ruby, Rufus, Mary and Nancy Upton. Survivors include her 
children, Thelma Huddleston, Tom and Linda Upton, J.C. and Irene 
Upton, Charles and Debbie Upton, Don and Alma Upton, William (Kimbo)
Upton, Ruth and Kenneth Norvell, Ralph and Charlotte Upton; 27 
grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grand-
children; and a special daughter-in-law, Patty Hawk. Funeral 
services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Shumate Funeral 
Home with the Rev. Woodrow Gilbert presiding. Music will be provided 
by Stanley Partin, Bo May, and Howard Warwick. Burial will be in 
Hensley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Honorary 
pallbearers will be Dr. Valencia, Dr. Oculam, Jimmy Evans, the 
Middlesboro Ambulance Service, all Middlesboro ARH Emergency Room 
Staff, Denny formerly of Concare, and the Concare staff. Visitation 
is from 7-9 p.m. today at Shumate Funeral Home, which is in charge 
of arrangements.
