T. Ed Asher T. Ed Asher, ( Thomas Edward Asher) 80, of Pineville, Ky.. An institution in Bell County Politics passed away on (died) Wednesday, July 20, 1988 following a long illness. He was born December 8, 1907, to the late Hugh Howard and Ada Mae Thompson Asher and was the grandson of T. J. Asher, a pioneer in the coal and lumber operations in Bell County, Ky.. He graduated from Pineville High School and attended Mercersburg Academy in Pennsylvania and Union College in Barbourville, Ky., Asher served as magistrate of Bell County for twelve years and was elected to four terms as Bell County Jailer, a position he later resigned to accept an appointment by President Richard M. Nixon as a United States Marshal. He served in that position for five and a half years before retiring. For a number of years, Asher served a Bell County Republican Party Chairman. In 1986 he was inducted into the Fifth District Republican Hall of Fame. He was instrumental in the development of the Bell County 4-H Club and served as club secretary for forth years. He was also selected as “Man of the Year” by the Pineville Rotary Club. He was president of Asher Coal Company and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Pineville for the past 66 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Asher. Survivors include his wife, Lynnell Robinson Asher who he married in October 1934. Two Daughters; Joan Asher Cawood of Middlesboro, Ky, and Joyce Asher Beatty of Lexington, KY. a Sister; Ida Mae Morrow of Clinton, TN, Four Grandsons; Paul Connor Cawood, William Edward Cawood, Robert Asher Cawood, and William Edward Beatty and a Granddaughter; Leslie Joann Beatty. and a Great- Grand-Daughter; Sarah Elizabeth Cawood. Services were at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Frank Leeper, and Rev. Charles F. Jones and Rev. Ed Hannah. Music was by Mr. Annette Walden. Burial was in the Pineville Cemetery. Pallbearers were; Sherman Hansford, Ernest Mike, J.C. Helton, Bill Rice, Marcellus Woods Jr., John Rowland, Pearl Rae Lefevers, and Jasber B. Howard. Honary Pallbearers were; Charles Dean, Arthur Asher, Jack Asher, E. O. Asher, Ed Wilson, Bob Bird, Paul Green, David Asher, Duncun Asher, Dr. Ed Rader, George Reese, Clint Taylor, Curtis Hoskins, Dr. Talmadge Hays, Bob Walden, Frankie Bird, Elders of the First Presbyterian Church, Robert Syler, John Turpin, Wayne Farris, John Garfield Howard, Jimmy Hoskins, Dennis Howard, Mike Lambert, Charles Wilder, Lester Bingham, Dewey Lane, Jimmy Wilder, Denny Smith, Aubry Bailey, James O.
