Vernie Baker, 89 4/6

    FERNDALE, Ky. - Vernie Baker, 89, passed away Thursday, April 4,
2002 at the Middlesboro Appalachain Regional Hospital. She was born 
Dec. 11, 1912 in Leslie County, Ky. the daughter of the late Thea 
Begley and Essie Holbrook Begley. She was preceded in death by her 
husband, Troy James Baker; granddaughter, Samantha Corey; one 
grandson, Steve Hicks; five brothers, Dennis Begley, Jimmy Begley, 
Bill Begley, Jesse Begley; five sisters, Nina Bartley, Roxie Begley,
Edna Sullivan, Betty Burkley, Mary Norris. Survivors include six 
daughters, Maxine (Ed) Farmer of Gladwine, Mich., Shelby Hopkins, 
Ferndale, Ky., Marie (Gene) Hicks, Gladwine, Mich., Betty Sulfridge,
Ferndale, Ky., Freda (Larry) Baker, Clear Creek, Ky., Jerri (Bobby) 
Valentine, Himyar,Ky.; three brothers, John Begley, Milard, Mich, 
Ralph Begley, Monroe, Mich., Grady Begley, Clarksville, Tenn. 
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Creech Funeral Home Chapel 
with the Revs. Walter Brock and Claude Baker presiding. Music will 
be provided by Fred Pauley. Interment will be in Green Hills 
Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Visitation will be 
6-9 p.m. Sunday at the Creech Funeral Home, which is in charge of 
arrangements.
