York, a retired hospital worker, of Waynesboro, Virginia, passed away Tuesday April 25, at his home. He was 77. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 23, at 10 a.m. at the Victory Baptist Church, Arjay Kentucky by Rev. Temple Myers. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Memorial contributations may be made to the Hospice of the Piedmont, 1490 Pantops Mountain Place, Suite 200, Charlottesville, VA 22911. In addition to his father, Walter York, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Sherman York. Raymond E. York was born August 9, 1922 in Rella, Kentucky. He was a son of Walter York and Virgie Napier York. He retired from the former Waynesboro Community Hospital in 1988 after 15 years of service. He was also a United States Air Force Veteran of WW II having served in the European Theatre for 5 years. He enlisted in 1941 and was in the 303rd Bomb Group, the 427th Bomb Squadron and was a waist gunner on a B-17. Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Virgie N. York, Arjay, KY; his wife Mary H. York, Waynesboro, VA; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Ann and Temple Myers of Mt. Sidney, Dahle York, Richmond, VA and Teri and David Gourley, Troy, VA; two brothers, Paul York, Clinton, TN and Robert York, Oneonta, AL; two sisters, Ellen Ward, Arjay, KY and Lucy Carnes, Grosse Pointe, MI and four grandchildren, Garth and Sevren Gourley and Shannon and Ashley Meyers.
