CARPENTER was born in Boone County, Ky., July 30, 1815. He is a son of William and Polly (Aylor) Carpenter, both natives of Virginia. William Carpenter was a prominent southern minister. He came to Kentucky in about 1812, and settled in Boone County, near where our subject now resides; he died February 18, 1833, and his wife in 1835. William H. Carpenter was brought up on the farm, and received a common-school education. He has followed farming from boyhood. In about 1863 he built his present residence, where he has 312 acres of land; he has another fine farm in Boone County, near Florence, of 115 acres, and also owns a farm in Kenton County. January 26, 1843, he married Emily A. Wilson, who was born August 18, 1821, a daughter of Aquila Wilson, of Kenton County. To this union four children have been born: Columbus C., Hattie, Butler and William Perry. Hattie is dead. The family are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
