Berkshire, Published, Burlington, Kentucky, Thursday, September, 4, 1930 David Bruce Wallace In David Bruce Wallace of Walton, Kentucky we find a capitalist whose interest area varied and whose career has been colored with many great accomplishments. As a banker for many years he wielded great influence and is today one of Boone County’s most outstanding figures in farming, commerce and financial circles. He was born on December 23, 1859 at Cincinnati, the son of William R. and Mary Job Wallace of that place. The father was a native of Scotland and his mother was of Irish descent. At the age of ten young David Bruce started work in the printing office of the old Cincinnati Gazette and at the extremely youthful age of fourteen was a full fledged printer earning the regular wage of two dollars per day for such work. Two years later he started a Job Printing Shop of his own located on Sixth street to which he devoted every once of his energy for the next five years much to the detriment of his health. To regain his strength he decided to take a vacation in the form of floating down the Ohio river on a houseboat, hunting an fishing for a pastime and picking up an occasional piece of printing that he turned out on a small job press installed on the boat. At Warsaw, Kentucky he was prevailed upon to stay there, and start a newspaper which he accomplished in May 1880. Though but twenty one years old at that time he soon had the respect and confidence of the whole community thru his unswerving determination to be fair to all regardless of creed or politics. This same policy has been carried out during these last fifty years of his life and probably is a main reason for his many successes. Mr. Wallace has been married twice, his first wife being Julia Marshall whom he married in 1896. To this union one son was born. Edwin Bruce , who recently married Louellen Williams. Edwin is in the electrical business at Walton and will soon move into a beautiful new home erected by his father as a wedding gift. The second wife of David Bruce Wallace is Mary Mottier whom he married in 1902. She is the daughter of John D. and Lydia Mottier. Mr. Wallace started his business career in the printing and newspaper publishing business, with which he was connected thirty eight years. He was president of the Kentucky Press Association in 1916. He was a delegate to the National Republican Convention that nominated Benj. Harrison for president; was the McKinley presidential elector when Kentucky gave McKinley and Hobart its electoral vote. Mr. Wallace was also elector in the Sixth Congressional District for Roosevelt and Fairbanks and was the Republican candidate for Congress in the Sixth District of Kentucky in the Taft Campaign of 1912 and ran over 2,000 ahead of the ticket. This latter statement shows in a small measure the high esteem in which he is held throughout northern Kentucky. Mr. Wallace was president of the Equitable Bank and Trust Co., at Walton, beginning with this institution as cashier in 1907 when it was established and remaining with it eighteen years. He has extensive holding in Florida and owns about five hundred acres of farm land in Kentucky. Mr. Wallace is affiliated with the Royal Arch Chapter F. and A. M. a member of the I. O. O. F., Eastern Star, K. of P. and herald of Liberty. As before stated, David Bruce Wallace has made a phenomenal success, and (not legible) -tion is constantly being called upon to assist in diverse enterprises and charities. This he never fails to do if the cause is worthy and the betterment and upbuilding of the county the object.
