All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************ Last Will and Testament of Abner Gaines: Boone Co., Kentucky Will Bk: D, pg 31 & 32. dated 8 Jan. 1839 I Abner Gaines at Gaines' lower cross roads on what is call'd by some the little saline in Boone County Kentucky do make and ordain this the following writing to be my last will and Testament-Viz. My Sons James M. Gaines John P. Gaines, Wm. H. Gaines, Richard M. Gaines, Benjamin P. Gaines Augustus W. Gaines Archibald K. Gaines & Abner L. Gaines making in the whole eight in number. To all of whom I believe that I have heretofore made donations to the values of One thousand dollars each, some years ago, and on making a fair estimate of interest &c. up to the present time I consider it worth two thousand dollars each. My Daughters who are three in number Viz. Mary Wright Bush, Elizbeth H. Hubbell, who are married women and to whom I have given as much as to the above named sons, and Mildred Pollard Gaines who is single and with me and my youngest child living I give and bequeath the whole of my property in which I am in possession of to wit, my plantation on which I live containing about two hundred and thirty six acres, together with all my negroes, stock of Horses, cattle, sheep, hogs &c. farming utensils &c. &c. and also the household & Kitchen furniture &c. &c. with the express under- standing that my wife Elizabeth Gains enjoys the property donated to Mildred during her life; and that there is a reservation of the following little articles to wit. which I give by way of keepsake as follows, a Caine which was donated to me by R. M. Gaines I give to Jas. M. Gaines; a pair of Pistols in the possession of John Taylor (Blacksmith) to John P. Gains a little grey horse called Arah, to Wm. H. Gains, my white rideing called Robert P. Letcher when my wife is done with him, to Mary W. Bush, a Silver watch which I have used since the year 1802, to Richard M. Gaines of Natchez, makers name Geo. Riley Dublin. I give it to him because he was call'd and named for the once owner of the watch, A Cave donated to me by Stockton of Pattimore to Augustus W. Gaines, a Clock (which is in his possession) to Ben P. Gaines Aggie's little boy called Ben or Tom, to A. K. Gaines & A. L. Gaines on one of whom may fix the price and the other take choice either to buy or sell, Rifle Gun &c. to A. K. Gaines, my neaggary Cave in the hands of Tosso of Cincinnati to A. L. Gaines, reguesting him to present my greatest regard to the donor of the stick to me who is my daughter in law, E. B. Gaines to Elziabeth H. Hubble I give my bay mare Conny and her colt called Stockins. The property that I donate to Mildred Pollard Gaines (who is now gone to Frankfort) according to the common estimation I consider worth (between 12 & 15 thousand dollars) I have plenty of debts due to me to pay every thing that I owe and then have a residum which is to be equally divided among my eleven children, The Black woman called Aggie is completely at the disposal of my wife Elizabeth Gaines, my interest in what is termed Gaines' X roads belongs to the family including the grave yard &c. equally my wife Elizabeth Gaines gives a bed &c. out of the furniture before mentioned and carriage called a Charistter also harness, to whomever she pleases, made and done at my residence aforesaid the 8th January 1839. Abner Gaines Codicil to the foregoing I appoint my son (name left blank) to be my Executor who is not to be ruled to give security unto the County Court shall direct absolutely capacity. A.
