BRANDON, son of Moses R. and Mahala (Grey) Brandon, was born in Switzerland County, Ind., in 1839. His father died when he was a small lad, and his mother married again. He was left to the care of his stepfather and was sent to school but very little. At the age of fourteen he ran away from home and worked at the blacksmith trade for about six years, when he left the man for whom he worked. In 1863 he enlisted in the Fourth Indiana Battery and was with Gen. Sherman during the entire service. After serving nearly two years he received an honorable discharge. He then blacksmithed in Howard County, Ind. Here he married Harriet Bunnell in 1866. She was born in 1847, and is a daughter of Ezra and Susan (Ellis) Bunnell. They have six children: Omar, Susan, Nelson, James, Alfred and Mary. They also raised a boy by the name of Alfred Ingalls, and when twenty-one years old started him in life with a good team of horses. Some time after his marriage Mr. Brandon lived about eight years in Kansas. In 1877 he came to Daviess County, where he owns a farm of 200 acres. His parents were natives of Kentucky. The father was a farmer.
