Perrin HUGH TAYLOR BRENT, a native of Paris, Bourbon Co., Ky., was born May 16, 1833, and is a son of Charles S. and Susan (Taylor) Brent, natives of Paris, Ky. Hugh Brent, the paternal grandfather of our subject, a native of Virginia, was one of the pioneer settlers of Bourbon County, Ky., and was the first merchant at Paris. Capt. Hubbard Taylor, the maternal grandfather of Hugh T. Brent, a native of Clark County, Ky., was a captain in tho war of 1812. His father, a native of Virginia, immigrated to Clark County, Ky., where he was a large land owner. Charles S. Brent, father of our subject, was reared and educated in Paris, Bourbon County; was a banker and died in 1879 at the age of seventy-two. Hugh Taylor Brent was also reared in his native town, and in 1849 entered Centre College, Danville, Ky., where he remained two or three years, then going to Louisville, where he first engaged in the wholesale grocery business, and afterward in rope and bagging business for five years. He then returned to Paris, where he again engaged in the grocery business until 1866, when he removed to Covington, and turned his attention to handling coal. At present ho is with James Rust in the brokerage business. He was a decided Union man during tho war, and was United States provost-marshal; he took the first guns from Cincinnati to Bourbon County. In June, 1855 he married Caroline Ressel, of Danville, Ky. Seven children have been born to their union, viz.: Charles, Susan E., Sprigg, Taylor, John, William and Ellen. Mr. Brent is a member of the A. O. TJ. W. and a Knight of Honor. Politically he is a Republican, and in religion be is a member of the Presbyterian Church.
