Mary? *THIS IS A PROVEN LINEAGE BY THE MAYFLOWER SOCIETY BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY: Stephen Hopkins Stephen Hopkins was one of only a few passengers on the Mayflower to have made a prior trip to America. He came in 1609 on the Sea Venture headed for Jamestown, Virginia. But instead, they were marooned on an island following a hurricane, and the 150 passengers were stranded for nine months. Hopkins led an uprising, challenging the governor's authority, and was sentenced to death. But he begged and moaned about the ruin of his wife and children, and so was pardoned out of sympathy. The company eventually managed to build a ship, and escaped the island. After spending several years in Jamestown, Hopkins returned to England sometime between 1613 and 1617. Stephen Hopkins brought with him on the Mayflower his wife Elizabeth, children Giles and Constance by his first marriage, and Damaris by his second marriage. A son Oceanus was born while the Mayflower was at sea. Stephen participated in the early exploring missions and was an "ambassador" along with Myles Standish for early Indian relation. Constance Hopkins was a Mayflower passenger. She journeyed with her father and stepmother, Stephen and Elizabeth Hopkins, her brother Giles, her half-sister Damaris and her half-brother Oceanus who was born during the voyage. Sometime before 1627, Constance Hopkins married Nicholas Snow. Nicholas Snow had arrived in Plymouth on the Anne in 1623. The inventory of Nicholas’ estate, taken at the time of his death, includes carpenter’s tools. This may have been his trade. His inventory also included books, so he was probably literate. Nicholas held various minor positions in Plymouth, such as highway surveyor. The Snows moved from Plymouth to Nauset, on Cape Cod in the 1640s. On the Cape, Nicholas served as surveyor, constable and selectman. Constance and Nicholas had 12 children. Nicholas died in November of 1676, Constance a year later in October of 1677. Before his death, Nicholas Snow wrote a will. The Pilgrim Society displays one artifact that is attributed to Constance Hopkins. It is a beaver hat; made in England, c.1615-1640 Steeple crowned hats, usually with a decorative band, was popular for both men and women in the early 17th century. Beaver fur, imported into England from the colonies, was processed into felt to make hats. Laura’s relationship to the President is below. Edward Bangs arrived at Plymouth aboard the Anne in 1623. According to parish registers he was born at Panfield, Essex (reports that he was born at Chichester, County Sussex are thought to be incorrect), England about 1591, the son of John Bangs and Jane Chavis Bangs, grandson of Richard and Margaret Bangs, and great-grandson of Thomas or William Bangs. His wife is believed to have been Rebecca Hobart, though that has not been proven conclusively. He was a shipwright, and he died at Eastham, Barnstable County in 1678. Both President George W. Bush and my wife Laura Luckey Sauer are descendants of Edward Bangs. George W Bush’s lineage is on the internet under Edward Bangs. Laura’s Lineage to Edward Bangs is as follows: Laura Von Luckey Charles W. Luckey m. Margaret C. Franklin Laurel B. Faulconer m. Charles L. Luckey Elizabeth B. Swinford m. George W. Faulconer John P. Swinford m. Sarah E. Terry William Swinford m. Juliann Noland Thankful Doane m. Elisha Swinford Hezehiah Doane III m. Sarah Bland Hezehiah Doane Jr. m. Thankful Bickford Hannah Young m Jeremiah Bickford Ann Doane m David Young John Doane Jr. m Hannah Bangs Edward Bangs m Rebecca Hobart. I guess that this connection makes the Bush family and the Luckey family distant cousins. Chapter 1 has covered Laura’s family history and ancestry from 1609 Jamestown, VA to 1788/1792 when the first family members arrived in Kentucky. He studied at Magdalene, Cambridge, where he met John Still, and later married Alice Still. He trained at the Inns of Court. In 1575, he was appointed steward of the college's Kentish manors. Alice died young, and he married Anne Browne, son of Henry Browne, a former clergyman of Groton. He acted as a minor landowner in his own right and as estate manager for his brother John, who had inherited Groton Manor, and performed legal services for local landowners. In 1592, he was appointed auditor of Trinity College and traveled regularly to Cambridge. Over time, Winthrop acquired a theological library, which he shared with clerical friends. He continued to correspond with John Still who became the Bishop of Bath and Wells. Winthrop's son by Anne Browne became a historically important figure: one of the founders of New England and the first Governor of Massachusetts. Adam Winthrop's diary was published by the Massachusetts Historical Society, which has also reconstructed his library so as to provide an insight into the ideas and reading of a Puritan reformer in the Elizabethan and Jacobean periods. What a lineage for Elizabeth Betsy Hedger, she and Edmond, Laura’s GreatX3 Grandparents, they had a son Reuben Newman Falconer b: 7 Jul 1833 in Kentucky d: 9 Apr 1924 in Hinton, KY. Kentucky Laura’s GX2GP Source: Hedger Binder C-228, 246 C-228 "Perrins History of Kentucky" p.22, 23 Reuben grew up on the farm of his parents and continued that way of life for himself. The 1850 census lists him twice, once in the household of his father, and also at the nearby farm of Absalom Faulconer, son of Richard Faulconer. There he is listed as a 17-year-old "Laborer." Reuben and Ann sold her portion of inherited land from her father, to Mary E. Sinclair, Ann's sister, for $700 on Sep.5, 1868. (D.B.9, p.442) Meanwhile, Reuben bought 44 acres in Harrison County from Cornelius Dunn for $887.50 on Mar.23, 1865. (D.B.30, p.285) He later sold this same land to Edmund Swinford for $800 on Mar.2, 1875. (D.B.37, p.536) Reuben and Ann lived and farmed in Harrison County, and had 9 children. Reuben joined the Masons Muellen Lodge #296 on January 15,1860. After his wife's death, Reuben continued to farm, and lived his latter years with different members of his family. He was living with Ed Faulconer near Hinton when he died. His obituary, published in The Log Cabin of Cynthiana, notes that he was a member of the M.E.Church of Hinton, and that "he will be missed by many." His gravestone reads "Gone But Not Forgotten."
