Paris; represents one of the oldest business houses in his line in Paris, having been permanently engaged in this line since 1864, making him the oldest established hardware house of those now doing business here. He is a native of Bourbon County; was born July 2, 1833, in Ruddel’s Mills Precinct; the fourth son who came to maturity born to John Shaw and Hannah Cox. He came to Paris in 1849, and began learning his trade with H. Wilkins, remaining with him four years and a half; in 1854 he returned to Ruddel’s Mills, where he engaged in milling and merchandising, remaining here until October, 1864, when he came to this place and engaged in his present business. May 26, 1864, he married Mary E. January, of Cynthiana; daughter of Ephraim and Mary (Thompson) January; she was a daughter of William Thompson, one of the earlv settlers in Harrison County. Mr. Shaw is doing an excellent business, having a large patronage. Has three children: William S., Mary L. and John R. Sources 1.
