WILL: Nathan Goodman, 1840, Bourbon Co, KY Contributed by: "Roger L. Goodman" Will of Nathan Goodman Will Book L, pages 263 - 265, Bourbon County, KY. In the name of God Amen. I Nathan Goodman of the County of Bourbon and the State of Kentucky being sick and weak in body but of sound mind and disposing memory (for which I thank God) and calling to mind the uncertainty of human life, and being desirous to dispose of all such worldly Estate as it has pleased God to bless me with, I give and bequeath the same in manner following that is to say, First I give to my beloved wife Mildred Goodman all my household furniture and one years provision. I also give her one negro boy James and one negro woman Louisa and Thomas her youngest child also one negro boy Harry also one negro woman Rachael also four milch cows also one Hackmare Kit and one Brown Mare also the farm on which I at this time reside consisting of one hundred acres to the same more or less to have and to hold the above property during her natural life or widowhood. At the death of my beloved wife I desire that the above property be divided equally amongst all my children, To wit, Nathan Rowland Willis Garrett Fielding, Anselm William Minori Virginia and Mary they being all my children. Second. To Nathan Goodman I give one negro Boy George. Third. To William Goodman I give one negro Boy Dabney. Fourth. To Minori Goodman I give one negro boy Landrum and two hundred Dollars. Fifth. To Garrett Goodman I give three hundred dollars. Sixth. I also give to my beloved wife Mildred Goodman one note on Joseph Stevens amounting to Two hundred and ninety dollars forty five cents. The ballance of the Bonds I hold I wish collected and all my just debts which are not many paid, the balance after deducting the five hundered as above stated to be divided amongst all my children which is ten in number. Seventh. I also request the balance of my property consisting of three horses nine head of cattle hogs and sheep also the balance of the corn after deducting enough for the use of my wife one year. Eighth. I also request the following negroes Billey Warner little Rachael Dolly Harmich and Franky be sold and their proceeds be divided equally amongst my ten children as within named. and Lastly. I do hereby constitute and appoint my Friend Thomas G. Brent my Executor of th this my last will and Testament hereby revoking all others or former wills or Testaments by me heretofore made. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my hand and seal this 22nd day of February 1840. Samuel Henry Leer The codicil to the above will and Testament of Nathan Goodman. I Nathan Goodman make this codicil to my will and Testament above written. Having on yesterday the first day of the present month May 1840 had an interview with my friend Thomas G. Brent whom I appointed and constituted in my said fore going will and Testament my executor to carry into effect its differnt provisions and he the said Brent having told me that it would be impracticable for him to act in the premises and he the said Brent having declined the Executorship of my said last will and Testament I therfore now by this codicil alter and revoke said appointment of Thomas G Brent as the Executor of my will and testament above written and in his stead it is my will and desire that John G. Martin act as the Executor of my foregoing last will and testament. In other respects it is my will and desire that my said foregoing last will and Testament stand unaltered and unrevoked.
