Burke Catlettsburg: Stricken suddenly while working on his farm at Lockwood near Catlettsburg, Dr. Estill Nelson Burke, 43, widely known Catlettsburg physician, succumbed at 12:15 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Death was caused by a heart attack. Dr. Burke was a native of Floyd county, Ky.,the son of Mrs. Lula Webb Burke and the late Dr. Isaac M. Burke. He was born November 9, 1898. After completing his early schooling in Floyd county, Dr. Burke graduated from the Berea, Ky., high school and entered the University of Louisville Medical College where he attained exceptionally high scholastic honors. He held the highest scholastic rating of any member of the Louisville Medical school's 1926 graduating class, and gained additional honors by attaining the highest rating of medical students taking the state board examination in that year. Dr. Burke came to Catlettsburg to establish his medical practice in 1928 after completing his interneship in St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Covington, Ky.In 1930 he enrolled at New York Post Graduate Medical School and Hospital for advanced studies in urology. Studies in this particular field of medicine later led to work at Johns Hopkins Hospital. During his medical school career, Dr. Burke was a member of Alpha Omegas alpharhoomorary medical fraternity, and Kappa Phi, social fraternity. While still studying medicine, he was united in marriage to Miss Vida Criswell of Litchfield,Ky., who with two daughters survives. He had engaged in the practice of medicine locally since 1928. Four years ago Dr. Burke acquired several hundred acres of the old Lockwood farm on the Big Sandy river road, and divided his time between this interest and his profession. He is survived by his widow, two daughters, Barbara Jean and Betty Joe{Jo}, both at home, his mother, Mrs. Lula Webb Burke of the Cannonsburg road, Boyd county, a sister, Miss Mabel Burke of the Cannonsburg road, and one brother, Harry R. Burke, attorney of Prestonsburg, Ky. The body was removed from the Kilgore-Collier funeral home to the residence, 2509 Broadway, this afternoon. Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Thursday from the Missionary Baptist church. Rev. Sam Sloan will be in charge of the services. He will be assisted by Rev. D. H. Matherly. Burial will follow in the Catlettsburg cemetery. The body will be taken to the church at 2 P.M. to lie in state one hour before the service. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Boyd county medical society.
