Death Claims Mrs. Burke, 43, Rites Monday

Catlettsburg- An illness of the past several months resulted in the
death Saturday morning at 11:30 0' clock of Mrs. Vida C.
Burke, 43, widow of Dr. E. N. Burke and widely known resident of the
Lockwood section of Boyd County. Death occurred at
her home.
Mrs. Burke was born in Grayson County, Ky., January 24, 1904, a
daughter of Mrs. Cordelia Bell Criswell and the late David Z.
Criswell. She had been a resident of Catlettsburg and Boyd County
since 1927. During her residence in this county she had been
actively associated with the church and civic life of the community.
She was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church of
Catlettsburg, of the Boyd County Homemakers' Association, a member
and former secretary of the Board of Advisors of the
Pierce Memorial Children's Home, a member of the Board of Directors
of the Boyd County Farm Bureau, the Catlettsburg
Community Chest, and the Southern Cooperative Association.
Surviving are her mother, Mrs. Cordelia Criswell of Litchfield,
Kentucky; two daughters, Miss Barbara Burke of Lockwood,
Boyd County, and Mrs. Bolyn N. McClung of Deland, Fla.; one
grandson, Bolyn N. McClung, Jr., Of Deland; two sisters,
Misses Isabella and Edna Criswell, both of  Litchfield, Ky., and a
brother, Justin Criswell of Covington, Ky.
Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o' clock in the
Missionary Baptist Church, Catlettsburg, with Rev. Dewey
H. Jones, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Catlettsburg
Cemetery. The body is at the Kilgore-Collier Funeral Home and
will remain there until one o' clock Monday when it will be removed to
the church. Friends may call at the funeral home after
noon today.
