Lloyd Vernon Channels, 88, of Terre Haute died April 11 at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. Born May 23, 1914, in North Tonawanda, N.Y., he was the son of the late Vernon and Grace Jennings Channels. He had been a minister at Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) from 1966-1980. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and did volunteer work for several organizations. He served congregations in Peoria, Ill., Benton Harbor and Flint, Mich., and Danville. He also was author of a book, "The Layman Learns to Pray." He was the widower of Vera G. Channels. Survivors include a son, Paul Odessa of Missouri; three daughters, Luan Channels of Terre Haute, Noreen Channels of Glatsonbury, Conn., and Jan Pierce of Decatur, Ill.; a sister, Ruth Zelonis of Tonawanda; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Services were Tuesday at Central Christian Church by the Rev. Verity Jones. Memorials may go to Central Christian Church, 4950 E. Wabash Ave., Terre Haute, Ind. 47803; or United Campus Ministries, through the church. Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. ______________________________
