Charles Arie Diehl, 54, of Alum Springs Road died Monday at his home. 

Born Sept. 5, 1947, in Scranton, Pa., he was the son of the late George 
and Beulah Mae Hogue Diehl. He was a material handler for R.R. Donnelley 
& Sons Co. He served 21 years in the Marine Corps and retired as a master 
sergeant. He had served during the Vietnam War and was the recipient of 
the Purple Heart, Presidential Unit Citation and several other medals 
and awards. 

He was a member of Out Reach Baptist Church and Disabled American Veterans, 
Marine Corps League and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia A. Garey Diehl; a stepdaughter, 
Cheryl Higgins of Danville; two brothers, Kevin Pittack of Pennsylvania 
and William Diehl of New Jersey; two sisters, Betty Langan of Scranton, 
Pa., and Georgana Diehl; and two grandchildren. 

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Stith Funeral Home. Burial will be 
in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

Visitation is after 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Stith Funeral Home.
