Born Sept. 5, 1947, in Scranton, Pa., he was the son of the late George and Beulah Mae Hogue Diehl. He was a material handler for R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co. He served 21 years in the Marine Corps and retired as a master sergeant. He had served during the Vietnam War and was the recipient of the Purple Heart, Presidential Unit Citation and several other medals and awards. He was a member of Out Reach Baptist Church and Disabled American Veterans, Marine Corps League and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include his wife, Patricia A. Garey Diehl; a stepdaughter, Cheryl Higgins of Danville; two brothers, Kevin Pittack of Pennsylvania and William Diehl of New Jersey; two sisters, Betty Langan of Scranton, Pa., and Georgana Diehl; and two grandchildren. Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Stith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Stith Funeral Home. Memorials may go to DAV.
