Born Jan. 12, 1924, in Danville, he was the son of the late Addison and Doris McCart Lanier. He was an attorney and partner in the law firm of Murphy, Lanier and Quinn. He earned his science and law degrees from Washington and Lee University. He was past president and director of Thomas Emery Sons investment firm and Scinet Development & Holding Co. He was a past director or trustee of several organizations and a member of several civic organizations in Cincinnati. He also was a former trustee of Centre College. He was a member of Christ Church Cathedral in Cincinnati and the widower of Melissa Emery Lanier. He was an Army Air Corps veteran having been a captain and B-17 pilot. He served four years in the office of the Secretary of Defense as special assistant. Survivors include a daughter, Melissa L. Murphy of Hyde Park, Ohio; three sons, Addison Lanier II of Hyde Park, John E. Lanier of Indian Hills, Ohio, and Mark Lanier of Weston, Conn.; a brother, Phillip Lanier of Louisville; and 11 grandchildren. Graveside services were today at Bellevue Cemetery by the Rev. Eric Mount.
