JOHNSON CEMETERY

Located approximately four miles west of Cloverport, KY off the highway between Cloverport and Hardinsburg on private land know as the old Gosnell Farm. Not accessible. 

This graveyard contains approximately forty graves apparent only because of sunken places. A few of those sunken places are marked with a rough fieldstone but no inscription. The only tombstones there are copied. The land was formerly owned by Lewis Burdette in the 1850’s and 1860’s. It is believed most of the early graves are of his family and neighbors. Some older residents of the area recall a few burials after 1900. The land was owned at one time by a Gosnell who fenced the cemetery because earlier owners had allowed cattle to knock down the stones. It is said stones were carried away from the graveyard.

Two other persons are proven to be buried in this graveyard by the obituary of Louisa (Burdette) Cummings Ambrose, daughter of Lewis Burdette and wife of John P. Cummings, which states she was buried in the Johnson Cemetery next to her husband John P. Cummings.
