He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Martin in 1987 and a son Donald Martin in 1993 He was born in Big Spring, the son of the late Ed C. Martin and Viola Wilson Martin. He was retired from the Civil Service in Ft. Knox and was also a farmer. He was a member of Big Spring United Meth- odist Chinch for 70 years and more recently amember of Irvington United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Big Spring Masonic Lodge #826. Mr. Martin is survived by a daugh- ter, Evelyn Gatewood, Irvington and a sister Lucille Kasey, also of Irvingtoh. Other survivors include four grandchil- dren and seven great grandchildren. The funeral was held at 2 P.M., Saturday, May 31, 1997 at the chapel at Alexander Funeral Home. Burial was in the Big Spring Methodist Church Cemetery. A Masonic Ser- vice was held at 7:30 on Friday by Big Spring Lodge #826. Pallbearers were Mark Gatewood, Benny Martin, Joe Fenwick, Nathan Gatewood, Casey Clark and Mason Clark. Edna Earl Elliott 1907-1997 Edna Earl Elliott, age 90, of Con- stantine, died Friday, May 30, 1997 at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital. She was the daughter or the late John Whitworth and Sarah Kinnison Whitworth. She was preceded in death by her husband Roy Elliott and a daugh- ter, Beatrice Porter. She was a homemaker and a mem- ber of the Hudson United Methodist Church. Mrs. Elliott is survived by her son James of Hudson. Other survivors include two grandchildren, Verdis Sharp of Port Orange, FL and Roderick Elliott of Constantine., four great grand- children and five great-great-grand- children. Services were held on Monday June 2, 1997 at 2 at the Trent-Dowell Fu- neral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Tucker officiating. Burial was in the Hudson Cemetery. Glennie Lee Sharp 1914-1997 Glennie Lee Sharp, age 83, of Con- stantine, died Wednesday, May 28, 1997, at University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville. She was a native of Breckinridge County, a member of the Constantine Methodist Church and director and writer for Planters Cooperative Insur- ance Co., Inc., in Irvington. Mrs. Sharp was preceded in death by her husband, David Sharp, on June 26, 1988, and a brother, Odie J. Paul. Survivors include two daughters, Jewell Jones of Elizabethtown and Joyce Sharp of Constantine; two broth- ers, Pierman Paul of Hardinsburg and Edward Paul of Radcliff; two sisters, Beulah Blair of Hardinsburg and Tommie Wright of Irvington; three grandchildren and seven great- grand- children. The funeral was held at 1, Friday, May 30, 1997 at the Brown Funeral Home in Elizabetntown with the Rev. Stanley W. Shaw officiating. Burial was in Elizabethtown Memorial Gar- den. Ernest D. Woods 1926 - 1997 Ernest D. Woods, age 70, of Falls of Rough, died Thursday, May 29, 1997, at his residence. He was born in Paintsville, December 3, 1926, the son of Dennis and Frances H_anner Woods. He was a retired truck driver and a U.S.Army Veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Woods is survived by his wife, Rosie Casto Woods, of Falls of Rough, sons, Eugene of Orient, OH and Roger of Columbus, OH and daughters Linda Siders of Grove City, OH and Patricia Jeffries of Coolville, OH. Also surviv- ing him are step-daughters Carol Fraley of Columbus, OH, Daphne Woods of Valley Station, Berry Pritchard of Laurelville, OH and Pamela Coleman of Psataskla, OH. Additionally are ten grandchildren, three great-grandchil- dren and thirteen step-grandchilren. Two brothers also survive him. They are Samuel and Leroy of Columbus, OH. Services were a 1 on Sunday at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home. Burial was in the McQuady Cemetery in McQuady. James Oscar Barr 1921-1997 James Oscar Barr, 76, of Irvington, died Tuesday, May 27, 1997 at the Veterans Hospital in Louisville. Born in Frymire the son of the late James Morton Barr and Lora Keys Barr, he was a mechanic and a WW II Veteran of the U.S. Army. He was an active member of the Paynesville Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and a former Sunday School Superintendent. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne, in 1989 and a daughter, Donna Zigler in 1996. Survivors include four foster chil- dren, Tammy Stewart, of Illinois, Delbert Stewart, Louisville, Mary 0liver, of Ohio and Shirley Griffen, of Tennessee, and 1 grandson, Jeremy Zigler, of Payneville. Also surviving are sisters, Kathleen McFarland of Ohio and Norma Trijillo of LouisvUle. The funeral was held at 1, Thursday, May 29, 1997 at the Payneville Baptist Church with the Rev. Vera "Mae" Trent 1909-1997 Vera "Mae" Trent, age 87, died Sun- day, June 1, 1997 at the Medco Center, Hardinsburg. Born June 9, 1909 the daughter of the late Byron Turner and Flori Johnson Turner in Pikeville, TN, she was a graduate of Berea College as a Regis- tered Nurse. She retired from Breck- inridge Memorial Hospital and also served with the American Red Cross for several years. She was an active member of the Hardinsburg United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Trent, and is survived by several nieces and nephews. Services were held at 12 noon Wednesday, June 4, 1997 at the Chapel of the Alexander Funeral Home with the Rev. Harry Dooley officiating. Burial was in the Ivy Hill Cemetery with the Alexander Funeral Home in charge. Everett Franklin Harper 1920-1997 Everett Franklin Harper, age 76, of Hardinsburg, died suddenly Wednes- day, May 28, 1997 at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital. Son of the late Walter Harper and Ada Mingus Harper, he was a retired truck driver and a veteran of the United States Army. Survivors include his wife, Ida Madeline Harper of Hardinsburg, and children Debra Wilson, Linda Jolly, Janice Lane and Beverly Hinton all of Hardinsburg, Becky Lucas of Big Spring, Connie Harper of Owensboro, Karen Brooks of Louisville and Danny Harper of Hardinsburg, 21 grandchil- dren and 16 great grandchildren. James Russell Smith 1910-1997 James Russell Smith, age 87, of Louisville, died Thursday, May 29, 1997 at Helmwood Health Care. A farmer all his life, he was the son of the late James Robert Smith and Cora Dockery Smith. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Lee Smith of Louisville, and children Lucille Hensley of Louisville, Faye Morris and Darlene Gray of Borden, IN, James Smith and Ronnie Smith of Louisville, Tommy Smith of Axtel and Darrell Smith of Pekin, IN, 21 grandchildren and 21 great grandchil- dren. Mr. Smith is also survived by survived by his brothers, Charles Smith, Hubert Smith and Estel Smith, all of Louisville. William Thomas Carter 1924-1997 United States Army Ret. William Thomas Carter, age 72, of West Palm Beach, FL and Cloverport, died May 28, 1997 at his Florida home. Son of the late Bernard C. Carter and Mildred Henderickson Carter, he was a Vet- eran of WW2, retired from the U.S. Army and Civil Service and was a realtor for Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate in W. Palm Beach, FL for the past 10 years. He is survived by his wife, Elgene Goodloe Carter of W.Palm Beach, FL and Cloverport; three Nieces and one Nephew. The family has requested that memo- rials go to the Breckinridge Memorial Hospital. June 11, 1997 Andrew J. Duggins, Sr. 1918-1997 Andrew J. Duggins, Sr., age 78, formerly of Breckinridge County, died Monday, May 26, 1997 at Parnell Access, Dewitt County, IL. He was born November 15, 1918, the son of Rauseau and Maggie Wheatley Duggins in Falls of Rough. He was a retired truck driver for Ron Fisher Trucking of DeLand, IL. Duggins was a member of the First Baptist Church of Farmer City, IL. He was also a Veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. Duggins was preceded in death by both parents, two brothers, five sisters and one grandson, Timothy Duggins. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Berry Duggins, children, Nancy Dianne Coleman of Farmer City, IL, Burril William of Cape Coral, FL, Andrew J., Jr. of Clinton, IL and Rick of Farmer City, IL. Zelma Irene Seibert 1908 -1997 Zelma Irene Seibert, 88 years old, died June 5 at the home of her daughter in Wadesville, IN. She was born in Breckinridge County on August 27, 1908 to the late Chris and Trecie Sahlie. Mrs. Seibert was preceded in death by her husband, Roscoe in 1991, a brother Allen Sahlie, and a sister, Mamie Lauresen. She is survived by a daughter, Juanita Ruth Hold and two grandchildren of Wadesville, IN; a brother, Bill Sahlie of Arcida, NB; and a sister, Pauline Dowell, Hardinsburg. Internment was in Lily Dale Cemetery, Gatchel, IN ------ Submitted Stella Marlow Keenan 1910-1997 Stella Marlow Keenan, age 87, of Hardinsburg, died Tuesday, June 10 at Medco Center. Born March 9, 1910 in Balltown, the daughter of the late James M. Marlow and Mary D. Barbee, she was a retired telephone operator and a lifelong member of the Baptist church. Mrs. Keenan waqs preceded in death by her husband J. W. Keenan. She is survived by three sisters, Thelma Willis, Brandenburg, Nina Huff, Baldwin Park, CA and Betty Chambliss, Hardinsburg, and a brother, Adrian Marlow, Burbank, CA. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 12 at the Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg with the Rev. Harry Dooley officiating. Patricia Ann Flood Harris 1959-1997 Patricia Ann Flood Harris, age 38, of Lebanon, TN, formerly of Hardinsburg, died Thursday, June 5, 1997 at Lynchburg, TN. Born January 3, 1959 in Breckinridge County, the daughter of Joseph Paul Flood and Phyllis Bruington, she was a member of St. Romuald Catholic Chuch and a member of the 1977 graduating class of St. Romuald High School. Mrs. Harris is survived by her husband Charles Daniel (Danny) Harris of Lebanon, TN. She is also survived by a sister, Libby Bowlin of Hardinsburg and two brothers, Joey and Tim Flood, both of Hardinsburg. The funeral was held at 1 p.m. Sunday June 8th at the St. Romuald Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Brad Whistle officiating. June 25, 1997 James Morton Brown 1926 - 1997 James Morton Brown, age 71, of Hardinsburg, died Wednesday, June 18, 1997 at Leitchfield Health Care Manor, Leitchfield. Born July 25, 1926 in Breckinridge County, the son of the late Same and Faye Fentress Brown, he was a self-employed dozer operator. Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Mary Lois Decker Brown of Hardinsburg, four daughters, Linda Wheatley and Vickie West, both of Louisville, Shirley Hill, Sellersburg, IN and Judy Sego of Clarkson; three sons, Donnie and Leonard Brown, both of Hardinsburg and Samuel Franklin Brown of Mt. Baker 1912 - 1997 Essie V. Baker, age 85, of Louisville, died Thursday, June 19, 1997, at Nortons Hospital. She was born on April 19, 1912 to the late Calvin and minnie Lou Sturgeon Stillwell in Breckinridge County. She was a retired assistant supervisor of housekeeping at Sts. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital and a member of the Methodist faith. Mrs. Baker is survived by a son, Donald Black of Louisville and a daughter, Juania Scutte of Colorado, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Joyce Ann Durbin 1945 - 1997 Joyce Ann Durbin, age 51, of Guston, died Saturday, June 21, 1997, at Hardin Memorial Hospital, Elizabethtown. Born September 17, 1945, daughter of the late Lester Poole and Virginia Poole Wright, she was employed with Doe Run Inn, Brandenburg and attended both Ekron Baptist Church and Salem Baptist Church. Ivory Lee Roberts 1927 - 1997 Ivory Lee Roberts, age 69, of Floyds Knobs, IN, died Monday, June 23, 1997 at Floyd Memorial Hospital, New Albany, IN. Mr. Roberts was born in Breckinridge County on December 13, 1927, son of the late Thomas Lee Roberts and Irene Elizabeth Norton Roberts. He was a retired lockmaster with the Corps of Engineers and US Army Veteran. Mr. Roberts was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Dean Roberts on March 9, 1983. Mr. Roberts is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Terri L. Roberts, Floyds Knobs; one son, Mr. Charles L. Roberts, Spring Hill, FL; one brother, Mr. James T. Roberts, Brooksville, FL. Burial was in Salem Baptist Church Cemetery. George Gary Bogard 1942 - 1997 George Gary Bogard, age 54, of Irvington, died a natural death Friday, June 20, 1997 at his residence. He was born in Louisville on August 10, 1942, a son of the late Clarence Ray and Marjorie Lee Denbo Bogard. A retired food service supervisor and restaurant owner, he was a member of the Masons. Mr. Bogard is survived by his wife, Carolyn Sue Atwell Bogard of Irvington; four daughters, Amanda, Melissa and Stephanie Bogard, all of Shepherdsville, and Tina McCubbins of Louisville. Also surviving are two grandchildren, two brothers, Kenneth Bogard of louisville and David Bogard of Milltown, IN, and sister Betty Baber of Louisville. William Hugh "Bill" Whitler 1931 - 1997 William Hugh "Bill" Whitler, former resident of Cloverport, died Sunday, June 22, 1997. He was the son of Mildred DeHaven Whitler and the late Emmanuel Charles "Pete" Whitler, both of Cloverport. Bill Whitler was born on November 19, 1931 in Fordsville and moved to Cloverport as a child. After residing in Los Angeles for many years, Bill relocated to Hollywood, FL where he lived with his wife, Liz, until his death. Bill is survived by his wife, Liz Whitler of Hollywood, FL; his mother, Mildred Whitler, of Dawson Springs; two daughters, Debbie and Brenda; three sisters, Sandra Robinson of Drakesboro, Mary K. Mitchell of Placerville, CA, and Nancy Haley of Temple, TX. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was born in Breckinridge County, daughter of the late L. Herman and Ada Driskell Niles. She was a retired school- teacher in Breckinridge County and former employee of U of L Ekstrom Library and a member of Gateway United Methodist Church and the Friendship Club there. Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her husband, William "Tip" Wilson on December 8, 1958. She is survived by two sons, Charles Hugh Wilson, Louisville, and George W. Wilson, Indianapolis, IN; a daughter, Marda R. Numann, Louisville; five grandchildren, one great- grandchild; a brother, K. B. Niles, WestView; and three sisters, Elnora S. Ethel Chancellor Ammons 1913 - 1997 Ethel Chancellor Ammons, age 83, of Lewisport, died Saturday, June 21, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. Born in Lebanon, MO, July 10, 1913, she was retired from Murray Tile, Lewisport, in 1975 after 25 years, and was a member of the Parrish Avenue Church of Christ, Owensboro. Mrs. Ammons was preceded in death by daughter, Dorothy Jean Duley. She is survived by husband, Robert "Ted" Ammons, Lewisport; two sons, Al Chancellor, Clay, Randy Chancellor, Omaha, NB; step-son, Bobby Ammons, Mayfield; daughter, Beverly Chancellor, Morgantown; five step-daughters, Aretha Gorman, Clovis Faught, Lewisport, Mary Kinner, Coshocton, OH, Doris Wettstain, Hawesville, Brenda Gardner, Horton, MI; five grand- children; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Harry Ricker, Lloyd Ricker and Arthur Ricker; and two sisters, Louis Nesbitt and Dorothy Ricker. Florence Sipes 1897 - 1997 Lohrville, IA - Florence Sipes, 99, Lohrville; died June 3, 1997, at the Shady Oak Care Center, Lake City, IA. Services were Friday, June 6th, at The Brown Funeral Home, Lohrville, with the Rev. Dwight F. Grosvenor officiating. Burial was in the Cedar Township Cemetery near Rinard, IA. Survivors include daughter, Rubie Gower, Lohrville. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard B. and Eliza Priest Hardaway; husband Ira, three sisters and five brothers. Florence Hardaway was born September 28, 1897, at Bewleyville. She came to Iowa at the age of 14 with her brother, arriving by train in Adaza in 1911. For several years, she helped keep house for her brothers on farms near Adaza. In 1918, she married Ira Sipes at her parents' home in Bewleyville. The couple lived in the Rinard area and later farmed near Rockwell City, IA for a number of years. Due to health reasons relating to his time in the service, they were forced to retire from farming, and moved to Rinard, where he drove a school bus for 33 years. He died in 1978 and she moved to Lohrville where she lived with her daughter and son-in-law. In 1993, she became a resident of the Shady Oaks Care Center, Lake City, IA. She was a member of the Lohrville United Methodist Church. ------- submitted Janie Mae Duke 1916 - 1997 Jane Mae Duke, age 81, of Cloverport, died June 20, 1997 at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital. Daughter of the late William Marshall (Doc) Smith and Sarah Weedman Smith, she was born April 2, 1916 in Breckinridge County and was a member of the Pentecostal Calvary Church. Mrs. Duke was preceded in death by her husband, Vol Duke, November 23, 1994 and three sons, Morris Duke, October 9, 1931, Heyburt Duke, November 19, 1978 and Lowell Eugene Duke, June 13, 1950. Survivors include three sons, James, Frank and Isiah Duke, all of Cloverport; six daughters, Maxine Fuqua, Margaret Taylor, and Geneva Phillips, Hardinsburg, Vina Louise Ziakas, Louisville, Delois Ray, Cloverport and Jean Brink, Nashville, TN; a sister Stella Embry, Grandview, IN: 35 grandchildren, 74 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. John Calvin Rodgers 1922-1997 John Calvin Rodgers, age 74, of Falls of Rough, died Friday at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital. He was born in Anton on July 4, 1922, son of the late John Callin and Mayme Fridy Rodgers. A retired shipping supervisor for Marley Cooling Tower Company, he was an Army veteran of WWII and was pre-deceased by his wife, Jessie A. Rodgers on February 10, 1978. Mr. Rodgers is survived by two sons, John S. Rodgers, Falls of Rough and David J. Dwight "Bill" Williamson 1907 - 1997 Dwight "Bill" Williamson, age 89, of Falls of Rough, died Friday, June 20, 1997, at Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center, Leitchfield. He was born in Burnham, MO on September 28, 1907, son of the late Floyd S. and Lizzie Williamson, was retired from the Air Force and Corps of Engineers and was a member of the Lone Star Church of Christ. Mr. Williamson is pre-deceased by two grandsons, a brother and a sister. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Willoughby Williamson, Falls of Rough; two sons, David Williamson of of Warrenton, VA and John Williamson, Bryon, GA; three daughers, Judy Corley, Hardinsburg, Sue Lewis, Falls of Rough and Dorothy Bennette, Willow Springs, MO; 11 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, two brothers and three sisters. Services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, June 23 at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home. Burial was in the Ivy Hill Cemetery, Hardinsburg. Edwin G. Bell 1926 - 1997 Edwin G. Bell, age 71, died monday, June 9, 1997, at his home in Pleasure Ridge Park. He was born March 20, 1926 near Garfield, the son of the late John Taylor and Carrie Mabel Bell, and grandson of the late John Taylor and Mary G. Bell and Bryon and Willie Kener McCoy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Talon Bell and one brother, Harold. Mr. Bell was a retired welder for Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 110, a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War, Past Master of Robinson Lodge #266, F&AM, former president of Masonic Employment Association and a member of Scottish Rite, York Rite, Kosair Shrine and Aahmed Grotto. He is survived by one son, Edwin G. Bell, II, three daughters, Beverly Ann Franklin, Carrie Sue McDonald, and Donna Esther Ostrander, all of Louisville; seven grandchildren, one great-grandson; three brothers, Ralph J. Bell of Tucson, AZ, John Walter Bell of Redding, CA, and Bobby Gene Bell of San Jose, CA; two sisters, Panquita Bell of San Jose, CA, and Terry Payne of Modesto, CA; one uncle, Ray G. Bell of Irvington and a cousin, James Leo McCoy of Westview. Masonic rites were conducted June 12 at Owen Funeral Home with James B. Elliott, Past Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Kentucky, officiating. Funeral services were held June 13 with Mr. Elliott in charge. Eulogies were given by Ronnie G. Bell and Mrs. Sharon Sizemore. Emma Lee Hicks 1905 - 1997 Emma Lee Hicks, age 91, formerly of Louisville, died Tuesday, June 17, 1997 at Medco Center, Brandenburg after a lengthy illness. Born July 31, 1905 in Irvington, the daughter of the late George Lee Bandy and Essie Hall Bandy, she, along with her husband, owned and operated various restaurants in the Louisville area and was a member of the Irvington Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Hicks was preceded in death by her husband Dallie Hicks in 1969. She is survived by a brother, G. O. Bandy, Irvington, and a step-daughter, Helen West, Louisville and numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral was held at 1 p.m., Thursday, June 19 at the Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home, with the Rev. Don Bruington officiating. Burial was in the Cedar Hill Cemetery. Robert M. Skillman 1916 - 1997 Robert M. Skillman, age 80, of Hardinsburg, died Thursday, June 19, 1997 at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital. Born October 24, 1916 in Breckinridge County, the son of the late John Skillman and Evelyn Beard Skillman, he was a retired insurance agent and a member of St. Romuald Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Susie Miller Skillman in October 19983. Mr. Skillman is survived by two daughters, John Schmnidt of Guston and Suzanne Osborne, Lewisport and a son, Larry Skillman of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, also seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The funeral was held at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 21 at St. Romuald Catholic Church with the Rev. Brad Whistle officiating. Robin Ranae Milliner Elliott 1961 - 1997 Robin Ranae Milliner Elliott, age 36, of Hardin Springs, died Wednesday, June 18, 1997 at Hardin Memorial Hospital, Elizabethtown. Mrs. Miller was a 1979 graduate of West Hardin High School in Stephensburg, and was employed at Elizabethtown Sportwear. She was a member of Trinity Full Gospel Church in Breckinridge County. She was preceded in death by grandparents, Luther and Pearl Milliner, both of Mt. Hebron, and grandfather Russell Dennis of Hardin Springs, and is survived by her husband, Carl A. Elliott; a step-son and step-daughter, Daniel and Christinia Elliott of Elizabethtown; parents, Charles H. "Red" and Velda Sue Milliner of Hardin Springs; brother, Douglas B. Milliner and sister-in-law, Marcie, niece, Karah L. and nephew, Gavin Milliner; grand- mother, Loretta Abell, Hardin Springs and step-grandfather, Dennis Abell. Bruce Bradford 1925 - 1997 Bruce Bradford, age 72, of Lewisport, died Saturday at his residence. Born in Manchester, OH, February 12, 1925, son of the late Albert and Mae (Fisher) Bradford, he was a retired riverboat captain with Indiana-Michigan Electric Co., and was a member of the Lewisport Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge. Mr. Bradford is survived by his wife, Hazel Badford, Lewisport; two sons, Ronnie Pogue, Chesapeake, VA, and Larry Bradford, Cloverport; a daughter, Debbie Bradford, Henderson; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Maurice Bradford, Manchester, OH; and two sisters, Ruth Creamer, Apopka, FL, and Sara Jo Morton, Mt.
