Eskridge Sr. 1907 - 1997 Joseph L. Eskridge Sr., age 89, of R.R. #2 Hardinsburg, died Tuesday, July 29, 1997 at Breckinridge Memorial Nursing Facility. He was born September 4, 1907 in Ammons, son of the late Henry Amiel Eskridge and Roberta Jane Mitchell Eskridge. He was a member and Deacon Emeritus of the Stephensport Baptist Church and a retired farmer. My. Eskridge was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Eskridge, June 3, 1975 and a great-grandson, Daniel Joseph Stallings, January 20, 1997. Mr. Eskridge is survived by a son, Shake Eskridge, RR #2 Hardinsburg; daughter, Helen Shartzer, RR #2 Hardinsburg; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services were at 2 p.m., Friday, August 1, at Wallace Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jeff Brown officiating. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Stephensport. Pall bearers were Tim Eskridge, Randy Stallings, Marvin Fuller, Frank Dowell, Tom Smith and Melvin Carman. James Robert Craig 1942 - 1997 James Robert Craig, age 54 of Reynoldsburg, OH, died Monday, August 4, 1997 at his residence. Born October 15, 1942 in Illinois, son of the late James P. Craig and Deloris Fentress, he was employed as a fork lift operator and was an Air Force veteran. Mr. Craig is survived by a son, Robert P. Craig, North Carolina; sister, Jeanie Cottrell, Hardsinburg; brother, Ronald E. Craig, Poplar, MT; mother, Deloris Craig, Harned; and grandson, Colton Craig, NC. Services will be Thursday August 7 at 1 p.m. at the Trent-Dowell Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Hayes officiating. Burial will be in the Shady Grove Cemetery at Falls of Rough with the Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in charge. Gilbert E. Wortham 1907 - 1997 Gilbert E. Wortham, age 90, of Irvington, died Monday, August 4, 1997 at Hardin Memorial Hospital, Elizabethtown. Born August 1, 1907, son of the late George H. Wortham and Nancy Blissett, he held several positions through his life, including a position with Henry Vogt, in Louisville, ran a trucking business in Breckinridge County, was a farmer, and worked with Southern States in Irvington. He was a member of Irvington United Methodist Church. Mr. Wortham is survived by three daughters, LaVaughn Dowell, Webster, Freda McCamish, Irvington, Joyce Smith, Webster; sister, Stella Board, Irvington; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Services will be Thursday, August 7 at 1 p.m. EDT at the Irvington United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Robinson officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Alexander Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers will be the grandsons. Visitation begins at 1 p.m. EDT, Wednesday, August 6. Odas L. Raymer 1925 - 1997 Odas L. Raymer, age 71, of Gillard Church Rd. in Breckinridge County, died Friday, August 1, 1997, at Twin Lakes RMC in Leitchfield. He was born in Grayson County, August 14, 1925, the son of the late Ollie D. and Thelma Clark Willis Raymer. He was a WWII Navy veteran, member of American Legion Post #81, and retired from International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Union Local #40. Mr. Raymer is survived by his wife, Imogene Haycraft Raymer; a son, David Meredith of Georgetown, IN; three daughters, Renee Milliner of St. Paul, Charlotte Robbins and Sharon Jordan, both of Louisville; four brothers, J.D. of Leitchfield, and Eddie Raymer of Garfield, Delbert Willis of harned and Donnie Willis of New Albany, IN; two sisters, Neomie Mikesell of New Albany, IN and Janie Bolton of Metropolis, IL; and six grandchildren. Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 3, at Ellis-Mayes Funeral Home in Leitchfield, with Bro. Jimmy Douthitt officiating. Burial was in the Hazelwood Cemetery near Leitchfield. Brobst, age 57, of Webster, died suddenly Wednesday, July 30, 1997 at his residence. Born December 19, 1939, in Detroit, MI, son of the late Joseph Brobst and Mary Forgage, he was retired from the Army, a veteran of the Vietnam War, also retired from ARA Food Service, Louisville, and was a member of Holy Guardian Angel Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus where he served as Grand Knight. Mr. Brobst is survived by his wife, Catherine Denise Borbst, Webster; two daughters, Tamara Mary Brobst, and Sarah Brobst, both of Webster; son, David Robert Brobst, Webster; sister, Ginny Harvath, Sun City, CA; and brother, Joseph Brobst, Levonia, MI. The body was cremated and memorial services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 2 at the Holyl Guardian Angel Catholic Church, Irvington, with the Rev. OBITUARIES - WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 20, 1997 Douglas Owen Keys 1923-1997 Douglas Owen Keys, age 74, of Elizabeth, IN, formerly of Breckinridge County, died Monday, August 18, 1997 at the Floyd Memorial Hospital, New Albany, IN, from injuries received in a tractor accident, July 7, 1997. He was born July 7, 1923 in Stephensport, the son of the late Lonnie C. Keys and Ruth Fox and was a retired carpenter from E. I. DuPont Co., a Marine Corps veteran of WWII, a farmer, and a Deacon of the Elizabeth First Baptist Church in Elizabeth, IN. Mr. Keys is survived by his wife, Edna Payne Kyes of Elizabeth; daughter, Sharon Raap, Elgin, IL; son, Douglas Owen Keys, II of Elizabeth, IN; mother, Ruth Fox Keys of Lodiburg; three sisters, Margie Nell Hall, of Fairdale, Virginia Cox of Webster and Margaret French of Lodiburg; four grandchildren and one great-grand- child. Services will be held at 11 a.m., EDT, Thursday, August 21 at the chapel of the Alexander Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Steward Officiating. Carol Cook Riley 1950-1997 Carol Cook riley, age 47, of Owensboro, formerly of Cloverport, died August 14, 1997 at Owensboro Mercy Health System. She was born March 4, 1950 in Cloverport, had worked as a food server at the Executive Inn in Owensboro and was a member of the Cloverport Church of Christ. Ms. Riley was preceded in death by her father, Billie Cook. Ms. Riley is survived by a son, Robbie Riley of Hawesville; daughter, Tina A. Jennings of Hawesville; mother, Helen Fogle of SeRee, step-father, Arnold Fogle, SeRee; brother, Billy Cook, Louisville; two sisters, Brenda Watson, Harned and Phyllis Hendricks, Cloverport; three grandchildren and fiancee, Herman Roby, Whitesville. Donald Edward Schneider 1930-1997 Donald Edward Schneider, 66, of Falls of Rough passed away on Saturday, August 16, 1997, at the Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center, Leitchfield. He was born on September 13, 1930, served in the U.S. Navy and was employed by the Breckinridge County Board of Education. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Aztel. He is survived by his wife, the former Gerry Matthews; two daughters, Susan Blair, Falls of Rough and Melinda Schneider, Fordsville; one son, Brian Schneider, Fords- ville; three grandchildren; one brother, John T. Schneider, Kalamazoo, MI; three sisters, Shirley Faust, Payneville, Marilyn Brown, Kalamazoo, MI and Myrna Roberts, Scotts, MI. OBITUARIES - WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 27, 1997 Jimmy Neff 1934 - 1997 Jimmy Neff, age 63, of Sample, died Tuesday, August 19, 1997 at Hardin Memorial Hospital. He was born in Hazard, son the late Leslie Byrd and Maude Howard Neff and was a retired self-employed saw mill owner. He is preceded in death by his wife; Willa Mae Neff in 1991. Mr. Neff is survived by three sons, Earl, Kenny Lee and Eugene Neff, all of Sample; two daughters , Debbie Horsley, Hardinsburg and Janie Young of Sample; eight grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; four brothers, Denzil, Bill (Ray) and Jadr bled, ad of Hardinsburg and L.B. Neff of Pboenix, AZ; and three sisters, Kathleen Wheatley and Betty Ann Bell, Hardinsburg and Emma Jean Jaggers, Lexington. Services were at 1 p.m. Friday, August 22 at the Trent-Dowell Funeral Home. Burial was in the Ivy Hill Cemetery , Hardinsburg. Frances Joyce Dowell Elmore 1939 - 1997 Frances Joyce Dowell Elmore, age 58, died August 22, 1997 at the Al- liant Medical Center. She was born May 7, 1939, daughter of Rita and Coleman Dowell and was a homemaker and a member of St. Stephen's United Church of Christ. Mrs. Elmore is survived by her husband, Eugune M. Elmore, Louis- ville; stepmother, Rita Dowell; father, Coleman Dowell; four sons, Terry, Michael, Jeff and John Parrish, all of Louisville; three sisters, Dorothy Blackerly, Toni Norris and Bernice Henken, all of Louisville; a brother, Gene Dowell; stepbrother, Jeff Dowell; step sisters, Cindy Dow- ed and Judy Lyons; and six grandchildren. Contributions are suggested to be made to the Hospice of Louisville. Floyd A. Bruce 1922 - 1997 Floyd A. Bruce, age 74, died Tuesday, August 19, 1997, at his resi- dence. He was born in Breckinridge County November 11, 1922, son of the late Joseph Bruce and Ella Bruce Bruce, was a retired driver for the Transit Authority of River City and an Army veteran. Mr. Bruce is survived by his wife, Geneva Bruce, Louisville; brother, Everett Bruce, Leitchfield; and sister, Ruth Henninger, West View. Services were held Saturday, August 23 at 11 a.m. at the Owen Chapel, Owen Funeral Home. Burial was in Resthaven Cemetery, Louisville. Arnold Scott 1923 - 1997 Arnold Scott, age 74, of Louisville, and formerlyofBreckinridge County, died Monday, August 25, 1997 at Alliant Medical Pavillion, Louisville. He was born in Breckinridge County on April 2, 1923, son of the late Clarence and Nona Hudson Scott, and was a retired truck driver. Services are at 1 p.m. Thursday, August 28, at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Hudson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 till 9 p.m., Wednesday, August 27 at the funeral home. Walter H. "Bolger" Compton 1912 - 1997 Walter H. "Bolger" Compton, age 88, of Grand Island, FL, formerly of Breckinrdige County, died Tuesday, August 19, 1997 at Waterman Hospital, Eustes, FL. He was born July 10, 1912 in Irvington, the son of the late Frank Compton and Lola Mae Wilson, was retired from Dravo Construction Co., Pittsburg, PA, as an engineer, graduated from Weslyan College, was a Mason and a member of the Methodist faith. Mr. Compton is survived by Lucienne "Jo" LaRocbe Compton, Grand Island, FL; two daughters, Linda Compton, Portsmith, OH, Sandra Mayne, Pensacola, FL; one step-daughter, Claudette LePine, Sudbury, Ontario; one stepson, Michael Roy, Bushnell, FL; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, August 22, with the Rev. Jim Robinson officiating. Burial was in the Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Alexander Funeral Home in charge. Ermil N. Beavin 1909 - 1997 Ermil N. Beavin, age 88, of Cloverport, died Saturday, August 23, 1997 at Owensboro Mercy Health System. She was born in Breckin- ridge County, June 3, 1909, daughter of the late Asher Newby and Harriett Hinton Newby, was a member of the Cloverport Baptist Church and was retired from the American Olean Tile Co. Mrs. Beavin was preceded in death by her husband Clarence Beavin on September 14, 1971. Mrs. Beavin is survived by a sister, Eula Nix, of Louisville; and several nieces and nephews. Services were at 1 p.m., Tuesday, August 26 at the Wallace Funeral Home, with Bro. Darryl Crenshaw officiating. Burial was in the Clover- port Cemetery. Charles Wayne Burden 1961 - 1997 Charles Wayne Burden, age 35, of Leitchfield, died Saturday, August 23, 1997 at Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center. He was born December 19, 1961 in Breckinridge County, the son of Clifton and Helen Coogie Burden. Mr. Burden was employed by Baillie Lumber Co. and was a farmer. Mr. Burden is survived by a son, David Wayne Burden of Leitchfield; three brothers, Clifton Burden Jr. of Battletown, Doug Burden of Leitch- field and Allen Burden of Roundhill; three sisters, Diane Lucas and Sharon Sadler, both of Leitchfield, and Charlotte Cahill of Ekron. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Wednesday, August 27 at Ellis-Mayes Funeral Home in Leitchfield, with Bro. Gerald Elliott officiating. Burial will be in Leitchfield Memory Gardens.
