NANCY SUE MILLS 1948-1997 Ms. Nancy Sue Dudgeon Mills, age 48, of Hardinsburg, died Thurs- day, November 6,1997, as a result of an automobile acciden. Born December 8, 1948 in Breddnridge County, Ms. Mills was a daughter of the late Gladys Brown. She was employed by Willamette Industries and was a member of the First Bap- tist Church in Hardinsburg. Survivors include her stepfather, Charles Surrell, Sr., Hardinsburg; a son, Michael Dudgeon, Hardins- burg; stepdaughter, Shellie Dunn, Louisville; two stepsons. Marc and Marcus Dunn, Louisville; sisters, Gladys Johnson, Joyce Duncan, Brenda Wales, and Margare tSurrell, all of Hamed, and Nonna Robinson, Louisville; two foster sisters, Ruth Brown, Hardinsburg and Margaret Surrell, Irvington; brothers, Charles Surrell, Jr., Hardinsburg, and Bobby Surrell, Hamed; a foster brother, David Surrell, Hardinsburg; two grandchildren, and eight stepgranchildren. Services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, November 10 at the First Baptist Church in Hardinsburg with the Revs. James Duncan and George Mitchell officiating. Burial was in Wales Cemetery in Hamed under the direction of Trent-Dowell Funeral Home, Hardinsburg. Pall- bearers were David Mahoney, Duane Wroe, Darrell Dauby, Merl Kannapel, Glen Carpenter, and Mike McCaslin. MRS. ANNA H. NEFF 1917-1997 Mrs. Anna Hines Neff, an 80- year-old Hardinsburg resident, died Saturday, November 8. 1997 at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital in Hardinsburg. Born July 31,1917 in Breddnridge County, Mrs. Neff was the daughter of the late Lawrence Hines and Nancy Ann Davis. She was a housewife. Her husband, Denzil Neff, preceded her in death on October 11,1997. Surviving are three sisters, Myrtle Blair and Ruby Taul, Cloverport, and Pauline Matthews, Hardinsburg; and a brother, Lawrence Hines, Har- dinsburg. Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 11, at Trent- Dowell Funeral Home in Hardins- burg, with the Rev. Harry Dooley officiating. Burial was in Ivy Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jerry Armes, Andrew Whitfill, Randall Bell. Earl Neff. Mike Hines, and MRS. REBA CARWILE 1907-1997 Mrs.Reba Ellen FIemin Carwile, age 90, of Hardinsburg, died Thurs- day, November 6,1997, at Breckin- ridge Memorial Hospital. She was born May 19,1907, the daughter of Wesley and Alice Ann Dailey Fleming.Mrs. Carwile was a mem- ber of Hillcrest Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her hus- band, James Gus; three children, Neoma, James and Charles "Spike"; two sisters, Laura Davidson and Flaura Carwile; and three brothers, Walter, Floyd and Elsworth Fleming. Surviving are five children, Mrs. Katherine Lou Duke, Mrs. Alice Jenny Duke, and Mrs. Ola Mae Priest, all of Hardinsburg; Mrs. Betty Crowe, Cannelton, IN; and Larry Carwile, McQuady; 11 grandchil- dren; 11 great-granchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; 14 step-great- grandchildren; 11 step-great-great- grandcbildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. from the chapel of the Hager Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert G. Walton III officiating. Burial was in Cap Anderson Cem- etery. MARY THOMAS HAYNES Mrs. Mary Thomas Haynes, 78, died October 27, 1997, at Brownsboro Hills Nursing Home in Louisville. She was the former Mary Thomas Foote, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. E.C. Foote, and was a native of Breckinridge County. She was a retired teacher for the Binet School in Louisville and a former teacher for the Breddnridge County Board of Education. Survivors include her husband, Garlend D. Haynes; a daughter, Mary G. Walters; a son, David R. Haynes; sisters, Mildred Squires, Lois Ferrell and Frances Henderson; and a brother, Gerard M. Foote. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 30, at Beechmont Baptist Church, Louis- ville. Interment was in Evergreeen Cemetery. Submitted November 19, 1997 MRS. EULA MILDRED RUSHER 1906-1997 Mrs. Eula Mildred Rusher, age 91, of Hardinsburg, died Tuesday, November 11, at Breckinridge Me- morial Nursing Facility in Hardins- burg. Born August 3,1906, in Breck- inridge County, she was a daughter of the late Monroe Dunn and Martha Frances Furrow. She was a house- wife. Mrs. Rusher had no immediate survivors. Funeral services were conducted Friday, November 14 at Trent- Dowell Funeral Home in Hardins- burg with the Rev. Harry Dooley officiating. Burial was in Ivy Hill Cemetery. MRS. ELAINE B. COLEMAN Mrs. Elaine Brite Coleman, age 53, died riday morning, November 14, 997 in Charlotte, NC. Mrs. Brite is survived by her hus- band, Samuel A. Coleman; a daugh- ter, Stephanie Tyier, and a son, Samuel Hunter. Also surviving are her mother, Mae Fern Brite, Har- dinsburg; two brothers, Thomas C. Brite, Hardinsburg, and James F. Brite, Louisville. Funeral services were held at the Sardis Presbyterian Church Mon- day, November 17 under the direc- tion of Harry and Bryant Funeral Home in Charlotte. BALDWIN 1926-1997 Mrs.Valeria Keenan Baldwin.age 71, died Tuesday, November 25, 1997, at her home in Leitchfield, following a lengthy illness. Born June 29, 1926 in Breckinridge County, Mrs. Baldwin was the daughter of Mrs. Irene Keenan, Le- itchfield, and the late Talbert Keenan. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Romuald Catholic Church. Her husband, Earl Hardin Baldwin, preceded her in death. Also two sons, Jack and Murray Baldwin. Survivors are a daughter, Modesta Ann Robbins, Leitchfield; grand- children, Valerie Alexander, Chasity, Amanda and Joshua Baldwin, Abby and Randi Robbins, and three great-grandchildren. ERLINE FULLER 1908-1997 Mrs. Erline Fuller, age 88, of Medco Center of Hardinsburg, for- merly of Cloverport, died Wednes- day, November 19,1997, at Medco. Mrs. Fuller was born July 11,1908 in Barren County, KY. She was a retired inspector for the Enro Shin Co. in Louisville, and was a member of the Cloverport Baptist Church. Her husband, Paul Fuller, preceded her in death on March 15,1995. Survivors include a son, Leroy Earls, Barbourville, KY; a step- daughter, Lorene Holt, Louisville; a stepson, Robert Lee Fuller, Hawesville; nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Services were held at 2 p.m. Fri- day, November 21, at Wallace Fu- neral Home in Cloverport, with the Rev. Truman Johnson officiating. Burial was in Cloverport Cemetery. MRS. JESSIE L. SMITH 1905-1997 Mrs. Jessie Lucille Smith, age 91, of Hardinsburg, died Tuesday, No- vember 25, 1997, at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Smith was born in Posey County, IN, a daugh- ter of the late Nathan Henry and Mary Reeves Lashbrook. She was a housewife and a member of the St. Romuald Catholic Church. Her hus- band, Wilbert Smith, preceded her in death in 1989, and a grandson, Thomas Smith, in 1997. Survivors are a daughter, Mary E. Collier; three sons, Robert E. Smith, Orlando, FL, Henry (Jerry) and James S. Smith, Hardinsburg; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchil- dren, and one great-great-grand- child. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 29 at St. Romuald Catholic Church with Fr. Brad Whistle officiating. Burial will beta St. Romuald Cemetery. Prayers will be said at 7 p.m. Friday at Trent- Dowell Funeral Home in Hardins- burg. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. MRS. ELIZABETH YOUNG 1899-1997 Mrs. Elizabeth Young, age 98, of Middletown, IN, died Friday, No- vember 21,1997, at Miller's Merry Manor in Middletown. Mrs. Young was born in Deleware County, IN, November 19,1899. Her husband, Claude Young, preceded her in death in 1969. Three children, Clara Houchins, Claudia Boucher and Lloyd Young, also preceded her in death. Survivors include a daughter, Dillon Moser, Denver, CO; a foster daughter, Betty Spall, Daleville, IN; 10 grandchildren, including Freda Cook, of Hardinsburg, and several great-grandchildren. NOVERA HAYES 1920-1997 Mrs. Novera Hayes, age 77, died Friday, November 21, 1997, at her home in Hardinsburg. Mrs. .Hayes was born in Rockcastle County, was a homemaker, and a member of the Hardinsburg Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, E.W. "Pappy" Hayes; three sons, Ronald, Mark and Timothy Hayes, all of Hardinsburg; a sister, Essie Napier, Broadhead; three grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Services were conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, November 23 at Trent- Dowell Funeral Home, Hardinsburg, with the Rev, Harry Dooley officiat- ing. Burial was in Westview Cemetery. GARLAND H. WITHERS 1905-1997 Garland H. Withers, age 92, of Hardinsburg, died Sunday, Novem- ber 23, 1997, at Breckinridge Me- morial Hospital. Mr. Withers was born in Breckinridge County, was a farmer, and a member of the Har- dinsburg Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. His wife, Mrs. Virginia Davis Withers, preceded him in death in 1987. Surviving are two daughters, Mary Lillian Dowell, Louisville, and Elizabeth Jane Lawson, Lexington; a sister, Mary Bennett, Detroit, MI; a brother. Bill Withers, Indianapo- lis, IN; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. The funeral was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 26 at the Hardinsburg Baptist Church. ROBINSON, JR. 1939-1997 Earl Conley Robinson, Jr., 58, died Saturday, November 15,1997, at his home in Dunmor, KY, follow- ing a battle with cancer. He was employed at Nelson Company of Kentucky in Lewisburg. RATH 1911-1997 Mrs. Ada Stith Rath, age 86, of Louisville, died Thursday, Novem- ber 20, 1997, at Jefferson Manor Nursing Home in Louisville. Mrs. Rath was a native of Irvington, a retired registered nurse with the old Louisville Children's Hospital, and a member of the St. Mark Lutheran Church in Louisville. Her husband, Nelson Charles Rath, preceded her in death. Surviving are a son, Nelson Rath, Louisville; a sister, Mary Gene Fowler, Seattle, WA; and two grand- sons, Mark and David Rath. SUTTON 1917-1997 Joseph Rupbert Sutton, age 80, of Cecilia, formerly of Louisville, died Thursday, November 20, 1997, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. Mr. Sutton was born in Breckinridge County and was a retired farmer. He was a charter member of the Liberty Chapel General Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, was a member of the Hudson Masonic Lodge #262, an honorary member of the Custer Masonic Lodge #624, Kilwinning Lodge #506, and the Surviving are four daughters, Bobbie Jo Daugherty, Constantine, Lavernea Nugent and Shelia Tho- mas, both of Louisville, and Betty Dean Daugherty, East View; a step- daughter, Martha Collard, Louis- ville; a stepson, James Stevenson, Baton Rouge, LA; a brother, An- drew Sutton, East View; 11 grand- children; 16 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. ETHELYN McKINLEY 1911-1997 Mrs. Ethelyn McKinley, age 86, of Stephensport, died Friday, No- vember 21, 1997, at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital. She was born in Ashville, NC, and was a homemaker. Survivors are her husband, J.B. "Mack" McKinley; sons, Brent McKinley, Stephensport, and J.J. Hyde, Jacksonville, FL; a sister, Margie Johnson, Jacksonville, FL, and two grandchildren. Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 25 at Trent- Dowell Funeral Home, Hardinsburg with burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Stephensport. WILLARD M. SPRINGGATE 1916-1997 Willard McClaren Springgate, 81. formerly of Louisville, died Octo- ber 29, 1997, in Hemet, CA. He was a native of Irvington, a retired shop worker for the old Louisville & Nash- ville Railroad, a Navy veteran and a lay minister in the Church of the Nazarene. His wife of 50 years, Doris E. Chapman Springgate, preceded him in death. Survivors are a son, Larry W. Springgate; a brother. Henry Springgate; sisters, Louise McBride and Mary Jo Moore; two grandchil- dren, and six great-grandchildren. The funeral was held at the Church of the Nazarene in Hemet. Burial was in Westminster (CA) Memorial Park under the direction of Miller Jones Funeral Home, Hemet. MRS. BECKY CLARK 1968-1997 Mrs. Rebecca Dawn "Becky" Clark, age 29, of Morgantown, died at 8 a.m. Thursday, November 20, t997, as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident on Hwy. 79 North in Morgantown. She was born in Jefferson County, a daugh- ter of Phillip E. Bratcher, and the late Nelda Ann Tarrence Bratcher. She was employed with Sumitomo Electric Wiring System. Mrs. Clark is survived by her hus- band, Jeff N. Clark, Morgantown; a son, Phillip Scott Lucas, Morgantown; her father, Phillip E. Bratcher, Louisville; a sister, Sherlyn Bratcher, Montgomery, AL; mater- ial grandmother, Linda Keown, Roundhill; paternal grandmother, Iona Bratcher, Caneyville, and sev- eral aunts, uncles and cousins. The funeral was held at 1 p.m. Sunday, November 23 at the Jones Funeral Chapel in Morgantown with burial in Chapel Union Cemetery. DIXIE LEE DURHAM 1941-1997 Mrs. Dixie Lee Durham, age 56, died Sunday, November 23, 1997, at her home in Guston following a lengthy illness. born May 4,1941 in Hardinsburg, Mrs. Durham was a daughter of Mrs. Pauline Guthrie, Hardinsburg, and the late Charles "Chuck" Guthrie. She and her hus- band Donnie owned and operated a wholesale produce delivery service for Meade and Breckinridge coun- ties for 38 years. She was a member of the Irvington United Methodist Church. Survivors other than her mother include her husband, Donnie Ray Durham, Guston; three sons, David Durham, Hodgenville, Glen Durham, Flaherty, and Troy Durham, Guston; a sister, Shirley Moorman, Louisville; a brother, Kenny Guthrie, Tennessee; five grandchildren, and five step-grand- children. The body was cremated. A me- morial service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 25 at Alexander Funeral Home, Irvington, with the Rev. Jim Robinson officiating. Poole, age 74, of McDaniels, passed away Tues- day, November 18, 1997, at the Medical Center in Bowling Green. He was a disabled Army veteran of World War II, was a member of Antioch Methodist Church, the DAV and VFW Post 5831 Hardinsburg. Mr. Poole was born on May 15, 1923 in Breckinridge County, a son of the late George and Lauberta Bishop Poole. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Thelma Lampton Poole; three sons, Ralph of Leitchfield, Randall and David Poole, both of McDaniels; three sisters, Hazel Poole and Lucille Willoughby, both of Louisville, and Bonnie Smith, Radcliff; four broth- ers, Franklin of Florida, George Jr. of Louisville, Harold of Oklahoma, and Donnie Poole of Axtel. He is also survived by one granddaughter and three grandsons, Morgan, Chris, Steve and Greg Poole. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 21 at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitch- field with the Revs. Ken McKinney and Marty Roberson officiating. Burial was in the Antioch Methodist Cemetery.
