Patterson, age 90, died Thursday, January 1, 1998, at his home in Harned. Born November 7, 1907 in Breckinridge County, Mr. Patterson was a son of the late James David and Mary Henning Patterson. He was a farmer and a member of the Rhodes Memorial United Meth- odist Church. Mr.Patterson was pre- ceded in death by a son, Robert Patterson, a grandchild, a stepgrandchild, & great-grandchild, step-great-grandchildren, and a brother, Alvin Patterson. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mar- garet Patterson; two daughters, Bar- bara Young, Hardinsburg, and Bonnie Dyer, Harned; two sons, Billy Patterson, Harned, and Benny Patterson, Louisville; three sisters, Edna Hayer, Sparta, IL, Cova Smith, Fairberry, IL, and Zelma Stone, Owensboro; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a great-great- grandchild; two stepgrandchildren, and four step-great-grandchildren. The funeral was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, January 4 from Trent- Dowell Funeral Home, Hardinsburg, with Bro. Gary Stevenson and the Rev. David Little officiating. Burial was in the Kingswood Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Penny Dyer, Pat Dyer, Steven Young, Kenny Ulrich, Barry Nottingham, and Lawrence Wade Edge. Wayne Finley 1906-1998 Wayne Finley, 91-year-old Har- dinsburg resident, died Saturday, January 3, 1998, at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital. Born in Breck- inridge County January 19, 1906, Mr. Finley was a son of the late Jimmy and Abigail Smith Finley. He was a farmer, a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church where he was a deacon, the church trea- surer and adult Sunday School teacher. His first wife, Mrs. Mary Edna Stinnett Finley, preceded him in death in 1983. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Irene Nash Finley; two daughters, Theresa Dowell, Hardinsburg, and Mary Emma Allen, Sonora; three sons, Frank Finley, Hardinsburg, Lawrence Finley, Bowling Green. and Thomas Finley, Tulsa, OK; 15 grandchildren, and 17 great-grand- children; seven stepchildren, and several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 6 at the New Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Darnell officiating. Burial will be in Jolly Cemetery in Hardins- burg, with Trent-Dowell Funeral Home, Hardinsburg, in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Irene Keenan 1904-1997 Mrs. Irene Keenan, 93-year-old Leitchfield, formerly of Hardins- burg, died Wednesday, December 31, 1997 at Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield. Mrs. Keenan was born in Breckinridge County on April 14, 1904. She was a housewife and a member of St. Romuald Catholic Church. Her hus- band, Tolbert Keenan, preceded her in death, also a daughter, Valeria Baldwin, and two grandsons. Jack Baldwin and Murray Baldwin. Surviving are a granddaughter, Modesta "Dessie" Robbins, Leitch- field, with whom she lived; sixgreat- grandchildren, and three great-great- grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 3 at St. Romuald Catholic Church. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Cloverport under the direction of Trent-Dowell Funeral Home, Har- dinsburg. Roger Shelton Burnette 1937-1997 Roger Shelton Burnette, age 60, died Wednesday, December 31, 1997, at his home at Falls of Rough, following a lengthy illness. He was formerly of Owensboro. Born April 5, 1937 in Breckinridge County, Mr. Burnette was a son of the late Onie and Irene Osborne Bumette. He re- tired from the Air Force in 1974, and Pinkerton Tobacco Company in 1996. He was a member of Goshen Baptist Church where he was a dea- con candidate. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Anna Milded Tivitt Burnette; four daugh- ters, Rhonda Ross, Owensboro, Robin Aud, Hawesville, Rena Burnette, Falls of Rough, and Rosanna Powers, Curdsville; a son, Rory Keith Burnette, Owensboro; a sister, Nell Barbalaci, Cloverport; two brothers, Jess Burnette, Cloverport, and Harold Burnette, Hardinsburg; nine grandchildren, and a great-grandchild. The funeral was held at 1 p.m. Sunday, January 4 at Goshen Baptist Church, Glen Dean, with the Rev. T. Noel Jordan and the Rev. Jerry Carter officiating. Burial was in Glen Dean Cemetery under the direction of Trent-Dowell funeral Home. Mrs. Nancy Dye 1921-1997 Mrs. Nancy Dye, age76, of Medco of Brandenburg, fonneriy of Irving- ton, died Monday, December 29, 1997, at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital, Hardinsburg. Born Decem- ber 15, 1921 in BreckinridgeCounty, Mrs. Dye was the daughter of the late JohnTriplett and Viola Powell Triplett. She was a homemaker, a member of the Irvington Baptist Church,a graduate of Irvington High School and was valedictorian of her class. Her husand, Kenneth Dye, preceded her in death in 1994, also a brother, Thomas Triplett, in 1996. Surviving are three daughters, Nancy Jo Brandt and Rosalind Kacho, both of Georgia, and Melinda Roberson, Louisville; two sons, and two great-grandchildreni. Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. EST from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home in Irving- ton with burial in Cedar Hill Cem- etery. Edward C. Sturgeon 1913-1997 Edward C. Sturgeon, age 84, of Rockport, IN, formerly of Louis- ville and Breckinridge County, died Wednesday, December 31, 1997 at Miller Merry Manor in Rockport. Born October 29,1913 in Breckin- ridge County. Mr. Sturgeon was a son of the late Frank Sturgeon and Alice Blair Sturgeon. He was a re- tired farmer, dispatcher for a cab company, and was a member of the Baptist faith. A son, James Franklin Sturgeon, preceded him in death May 8, 1994. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Gladys Sturgeon; three daughters, Norma Hughes and Catherine Stur- geon, Saginaw, MI, Judy Peck, Lou- isville; four sons, Carl Sturgeon, Nicholasville, Charles F. "Pete" Sturgeon, Rockport, IN, Allan Stur- geon, Hardinsburg, and Forrest Stur- geon, Louisville; two sisters. Myrtle Rogers, Cloverport, and Lillie Mar- tin, Hammond, IN; a brother, Porrest Sturgeon, Owensboro; several grand and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Viola Horsley 1912-1998 Mrs. Viola Horsley, age 85, of Shepherdsville, died Friday, Janu- ary 2, 1998 at the home of a daughter in Shepherdsville. Born September 15, 1912, in Breckinridge County, Mrs. Horsley was a member of the Hill Dale United Methodist Church in Hancock County and was a vol- unteer for the Senior Citizens Com- panion Program for 15 years. Her husband, James Horsley, preceded her in death April 17, 1974. Surviving are two daughters, Regina Spruiel of Lewisport, and Shirley Compton, Shepherdsville; a son, Ed Horsley, Middletown; a sis- ter, Alma Burnette, Hawesville; seven grandchildren, and 14 great- grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 4 at Wallace Funeral Home in Cloverport, with the Rev. David Voyles officiating. Burial was in Cloverport Cemetery. Leroy W. Miller 1935-1997 Leroy W. Miller, a 62-year-old Louisville resident, died Monday, December 29, 1997 in Louisville. Born in Louisville on July 14,1935, Mr. Miller was the son of the late Frank and Myrtle Miller. He was a truck driver for tbe Tennessee Pride Sausage Co., and was a Navy vet- eran. Surviving are a son, Mark A. Miller, Louisville; a sister, Lillian Raver, Cody, WY; two grandchil- dren; and two nephews, Earl Miller, Cloverport, and Terry Miller, Lou- isville. A graveside service was held Thursday, January 1, 1998, at the Cloverport Cemetery with the Rev. Darryl Crenshaw officiating. Wal- lace Funeral Home, Cloverport, was in charge of local arrangements. WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 14, 1998 MRS. KATHRYN H. CLAGGETT 1907-1998 Mrs. Kathryn H. Claggett, age 90, of Irvington, died Wednesday, January 7, 1998, at Prattsville, AL, following a short illness. Born December 31, 1907, in Louisville, Mrs. Claggett was the daughter of the late Willliam F. Heck and Lezzette Lotz. She was a homemaker, a member of the Irvington united Methodist Church and the Irvington Order of Eastern Star #544. Her husband, Clarence Claggett, preceded her in death in 1987. Surviving are two daughters, Betty Edgell, Irvington, and Kathryn Hamilton, Sun City, AZ; four sons, Bruce Claggett, Elizabethtown, Bill Claggett, Irvington, Bobby Claggett, Crown Point, IN, and Alan Claggett, Millbrook, AL; 22 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.mj. Saturday, January 10 from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home, Irvington, with the Rev. Jim Robinson officiating. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Eastern Star services were held at 7 p.m. Friday night. MS. REBECCA M. DUNCAN 1949-1998 Ms. Rebecca M. Duncan, age 48, of Guston, formerly of Cloverport, died Monday, January 5, 1998 at Desoto Hospital in South Haven, MS. Born October 19, 1949 in Hardinsburg, Ms. Duncan was a daughter of the late Euphus "Joe" McKinney and Margaret Baucum McKinney. She was a retired teacher in the Hardin County School System and had taught at the Radcliff Middle School. She was selected the first Princess Sacajawea in 1964. Survivors are a daughter, Carrie Anne Duncan, servinig with the U.S. Navy at Norfolk, VA; a son, Matthew C. Duncan, also with the U.S. Navy stationed at San Diego, CA; a brother, Phillip Varble, Cloverport; and a special friend, Joanne Fitzgibbon, Guston. There was no visitation at the funeral home. Friends were asked to join the family at the home of Phillip Varble in Cloverport from 3-5 p.m. Thursday, and from 3-5 p.m. Friday at the Duncan home in Guston. Wallace Funeral Home, Cloverport was in charge of arrangements. HERBERT LEE MATTINGLY 1906-1998 Herbert Lee Mattingly, age 91, died Thursday, January 8, 1998, at his home in Payneville. Born December 26, 1906 in Meade County, Mr. Mattingly was the son of the late Henry Cleveland and sarah Gerturde [sic] Mattingly. He retired from the Civil Service at Fort Knox after 30 years of service. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Clark Mattingly; two daughters and a son-in-law, Dorothy Riggs, Brandenburg, and Mary Lena and Wallace Greenwell, Payneville; two sons, Herbert Lee "Doodle" Mattingly, Jr., Payneville, and Lamar Mattingly and friend Nola Allen, Valley Station; a daughter-in-law, Judy Mattingly, Irvington; a sister, Leora Mattingly, Brandenburg; seven grandchildren, Rick Mattingly, Kelly Mattingly, Leisa Nutt, Stacey Medley, Dana Vanover, Robert Mattingly and Travis Mattingly; four stepgrandchildren, Robbie Gandy, Pamela West, Kim Phillys, and Seth Nutt, and five great-grandchildren, Memory Mattingly, Keith Medley, Brooke Bennett, Cody Mattingly, and Taylor Vanover. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 10 from St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church at Payneville, with Father Jim Shook officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery under the direction of Hager funeral Home. Pallbearers were his grandchildren, Rick Kelly, Travis Mattingly, Leisa Nutt, Stacey Medley and Dana Vanover. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the American Cancer Society. ELIZABETH KYLE 1898-1998 Mrs. Elizabeth Kyle, age 99, of Fort Thomas, KY, died Friday, January 2, 1998, at St. Luke Hospital, Ft. Thomas. She was a homemaker. She was born on January 20, 1898, in Cold Springs, KY. Survivors include a son, Hary S. Kyle, Jr., of Butler, KY; two daughters, Dolores Patton of Hardinsburg, and BettyKlump of Fort Thomas, KY. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceeded in death by her husband, Harry S. Kyle, Sr., in 1951. The funeral services was held on Monday, January 5, 1998, at the Christ Church United Church of Christ, Ft. Thomas, with burial in the Alexandria Cemetery. A. C. Dobbling & Son Funeral Home, Ft.
